The City of Port St. Lucie is seeking HVAC Technicians at various levels (I, II, III) to perform maintenance and repairs on HVAC systems in City-owned facilities. HVAC Technician I- $25.31/Hourly
Under close supervision, performs entry-level general HVAC maintenance and equipment replacement for all City-owned facilities, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and performs related duties. Performs more routine duties while learning City policies and procedures and becoming familiar with the variety of departmental systems and practices.

HVAC Technician II- $26.58/Hourly
Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of skilled, journey-level general HVAC maintenance and equipment replacement for all City owned facilities including mechanical, electrical, plumbing and related duties. HVAC Technician II is the experienced/journey-level class in the series, fully competent to independently perform duties.

HVAC Technician III- $27.91/Hourly
Under minimal supervision, leads and participates in a wide variety of advanced skilled journey-level HVAC preventive and corrective maintenance for troubleshooting, diagnosis and equipment replacement for all City owned facilities including their mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and related duties. HVAC Technician III is the advanced skill level, lead position in the HVAC Technician position classification. Incumbents serve as a working lead person performing the full range of skilled duties in preventive and corrective maintenance in the areas of construction, installation, maintenance, and repair.The following duties are illustrative for this position. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

HVAC Technician I
  • Keeps the mission, vision and values of the City of Port St. Lucie at the forefront of decision making and action; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives, maintaining high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations.
  • Provides assistance for troubleshooting and repairs HVAC equipment and performs scheduled general and specialized preventative maintenance on air conditioning equipment in City owned buildings.
  • Provides assistance for developing plans and specifications for projects for replacing equipment and oversees Contractor installations.
  • Provides assistance for inspecting and studies existing systems, practices and procedures for documenting improvements and develops recommendations and practices for a preventive safety and maintenance program.
  • Provides assistance for obtaining costs and requisitions for replacement equipment, materials, tools and supplies for projects and regular operations.
  • Performs general buildings and facilities maintenance and repair duties as directed.
  • Operates vehicles, tools and equipment as duties require.
  • Collects and researches data.
  • Designs workflows and procedures of maintenance work.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

HVAC Technician II

  • Troubleshoots and repairs HVAC equipment and performs scheduled general and specialized preventative maintenance on air conditioning equipment in City owned buildings without supervision.
  • Lead in development of plans and specifications for projects for replacing equipment and oversees Contractor installations without supervision.
  • Inspects and studies existing systems, practices and procedures for documenting improvements and develop recommendations and practices for a preventive safety and maintenance program without supervision.
  • Obtains costs and provides requisitions for replacement equipment, materials, tools and supplies for projects and regular operations without supervision.
  • Performs general buildings and facilities maintenance and repair duties as directed.
  • Operates vehicles, tools and equipment as duties require.
  • Collects and researches data.
  • Designs workflows and procedures of maintenance work.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

HVAC Technician I-Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma required.Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in air conditioning, and HVAC system repair and maintenance required. A comparable amount of training, education, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

HVAC Technician II-Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma is required. Minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience in air conditioning and HVAC system repair and maintenance. Successful completion and demonstration of proficiency through written and oral examinations of the qualifications for the position. Proof of successful completion of six (6) industry-related courses required.

TPC Training for HVAV Technicians or Approved Equal Courses

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

HVAC Technician I-
  • Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) – Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Certification required. FDLE-CJIS Certification must be in good standing consistently and without lapses.
  • EPA 608 Certification for refrigerant recovery required or must be obtained nine (9) months from the date of hire. EPA 608 Certification must be maintained without lapses.
  • Possession of valid driver’s license and maintenance of clean driving record required with the ability to obtain a valid Florida driver’s license within 30 days from date if hire.
  • Possession of a valid Class E Florida Driver’s License and maintenance of a clean driving record required.
HVAC Technician ii-
