Job Description
The Facilities HVAC & Building Mechanic reports to the Director of Facilities and provides mechanical services to all GMP manufacturing (aseptic and oral solid dose), product development, manufacturing, and office areas. Requirements of the position include both mechanical and electrical understandings.
Shift work and/or weekend work may be required at times. Work times TBD.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Completes all PM’s and Breakdown maintenance on Building HVAC systems including RTU’s, AHU’s, EF’s, Chillers, and Boilers.
- Ensures the 450k square feet of facility at Pii meets appropriate cGMP standards, assists in monitoring environmental conditions of cGMP areas, and ensures all parameters meet cGMP requirements.
- Proficient in identifying and troubleshooting systems, completing repairs per regulations and industry best practices, including component changeouts.
- Documents work or repairs consistent with Good Documentation Practices.
- Provides suggestions for correcting problems and improving operations.
- Uses good judgment in dealing with operational problems.
- Works independently with minimal supervision.
- Recommends parts and supplies for equipment, including spare parts inventory.
- Completes GM training meeting deadlines and schedules.
- Escalates issues to Engineering management when necessary, such as safety concerns, complexity, or need for contractors.
- Works safely and compliantly, using PPE and observing safety precautions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- At least 3 years of experience in facilities maintenance, preferably in a pharmaceutical environment.
- Basic math and computer skills (Word, Excel).
- Familiarity with building automation systems (BAS).
- Positive, professional attitude and willingness to cooperate with co-workers and contribute to team projects.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to hear and speak to employees and business associates via phone, Teams, and in person in English.
- Exposure to manufacturing/laboratory environment including noise, dust, odors, and fumes.
- Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
- Regularly sit, stand, bend, kneel, reach, and move about the facility, including climbing stairs and ladders, and gowning for clean areas.
- Regularly document work in handwriting or electronically.
- Ability to hear and identify mechanical sounds for troubleshooting.
- Ability to manipulate hand tools.
- Ability to see details clearly and discern measurement tools in English and Metric units.
- Ability to read and understand procedures, and occasionally update them.
- Ability to write on paperwork and in logbooks.
- Proficiency in using a computer, monitor, keyboard, and relevant software.
- Ability to use PPE such as respirators, gloves, safety shoes, goggles, etc.
- Ability to receive training and demonstrate knowledge acquisition through testing.
