Job summary

Daikin Applied, the world’s largest HVAC company, seeks a full-time HVAC Journeyman in Pittsburgh, PA. You’ll service commercial/industrial equipment including chillers, rooftops, and boilers, with training provided across in-person and online programs.

The role includes mentoring apprentices and leading retrofit projects while maintaining safety and certifications. Responsibilities cover diagnostics, repairs, problem prevention, and customer education.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Associates Degree or HVAC certification preferred.
• 5+ years related experience or equivalent.
• Journeyman status recognized by the union.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
• Local license/training requirements may apply.

Responsibilities

• Service equipment including chillers, rooftop units, fan coils, water source heat pumps, AHUs, cooling towers and boilers.
• Repair and replace defective components or wiring.
• Maintain and inspect to prevent breakdowns and callbacks.
• Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, pipefitting and brazing of commercial HVAC equipment.
• Conduct warranty service inspections and tests on systems.
• Educate customers on proper use, maintenance schedules, and manuals.
• Lead apprentices through hands-on demonstrations during rebuilds and retrofits.
• Record billing, inventory, timecards and related reports promptly.
• Load programs into equipment and analyze chiller trend data for performance.
• Participate in training programs through regional technicians and off-site modules.
• Maintain certifications and develop new skills; uphold safety standards.

Location:Pittsburgh, PA

Your Responsibilities:

• Perform service of equipment including inspecting and testing systems to verify functionality including but not limited to chillers, fan coils, water source heat pumps, applied air handling units, rooftop units, cooling towers, and condenser tubes
• Repair and replace defective equipment, components, or wiring
• Maintain and inspect equipment to identify potential problems to prevent premature and unexpected breakdowns or callbacks
• Perform intermediate and advanced independent diagnostics, troubleshooting, pipefitting, and brazing of commercial HVAC equipment
• Conduct warranty service application by independently inspecting and testing systems to verify functionality of all commercial HVAC equipment
• Educate technical and non-technical customers on proper use of equipment, maintenance schedule, and operating manual usage
• Lead and participate in the rebuild and retrofit of commercial HVAC level units including the direction of apprentice level technicians through hands‑on demonstration of the necessary steps
• Record and report billing, inventory, timecards, technician tip reports, and other articles as required and in a timely manner
• Download programs into commercial HVAC equipment and Micro controllers and analyze chiller trend data to ensure optimal performance
• Participate in available training through regional technician trainers, and off‑site learning modules
• Maintain all required certifications and continue to develop new skill sets
• Ensure standards, policies, procedures, and maintenance of a clean work area are always upheld
• Complete jobsite hazard assessment prior to initiating service and adhere to Daikin Applied and customer safety policies and OSHA guidelines

Your Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Associates Degree or technical school HVAC certification (preferred)
• 5+ years of related experience with increasing responsibility or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Accepted as Journeyman by the union
• Valid Driver's License and acceptable driving record
• Required license(s) and/or training card as required by local law district
• Rotational Emergency Call Support availability as required
• Previous experience in mentoring less experienced technicians
• EPA approved Universal Technician Certification (preferred)
• OSHA 10 certification (preferred)
• Current first aid / CPR card (preferred)

The expected hourly rate for this position is $50 - $56 in PA. The rate is subject to the amount outlined in the CBA and could change based on the level offered. Benefits are provided through a local labor union and aligned to the CBA.
