Job description

HVAC Installation Technician - Special Projects ($22-$53.20/per hour)

COMPANY SUMMARY: A third generation family-owned business, Shapiro & Duncan has been serving customers in DC, Maryland and Virginia since 1976. The company is known for their award-winning company culture and complex commercial, government and institutional design-build projects that require first-rate performance, work quality and customer service. We specialize in full service mechanical solutions which include engineering, coordination, prefabrication assembly, construction, service and maintenance.

JOB SUMMARY: The HVAC Installation Technician shall possess a strong understanding of the HVAC work related to the commercial equipment installations. The installation technician will work and lead our forces; and report to the project Foreman, superintendent. The HVAC Installation Technician shall act as the first layer of quality control, ensuring that the work is performed with the highest standards of craftsmanship and materials.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in the HVAC trade.
  • Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D. Advanced HVAC technical training. (Experience may be substituted for education)
  • Licenses: CFC Certification (Universal preferred) or obtain in a timely manner once employed, HVAC Journeyman (or obtain in a timely manner once employed), NATE Certifications, and OSHA10.
  • Physical and Work Schedule: This job does have a degree of physical requirements. Installation Technician must be able to lift 75 lbs., stand for extended periods of time, and operate hand tools and power tools for the length of the day. Must be flexible with working hours (night and weekend work hours are required).

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Layout and prepare tools and materials for upcoming work.
  • Refer to drawings, specifications and installation manuals to determine materials and methods.
  • Coordinate with the foreman on work that Shapiro & Duncan and subcontractors are performing.
  • Coordinate materials and supervise subcontractors and our own workforce.
  • Assemble material lists to solicit quotes from vendors for pricing, based upon foreman directives.
  • Review plans and specifications for all projects in order to have a complete understanding of the scope of work, inclusions and exclusions of the contract.
  • Anticipate what will need to be done as you finish each task, to minimize downtime.
  • Layout work for junior technicians and apprentices.
  • Ensure that the work will fit in the space available before starting the work.
  • Always maintain proper clearances for servicing equipment.
  • Call for inspections if required and review the job with the inspector.
  • Maintain the zero punch list goal of the SP department.
  • Always plan ahead. Avoid unscheduled work stoppage due to not having the proper material or equipment on hand.
  • Maximize job profitability by monitoring material purchases and labor expenditures.
  • Report in on a daily basis to the service project manager or the service manager.
  • Inspect finished work for quality and final presentation.
  • Perform owner training on equipment installed when necessary.
  • Communicate to the foreman additional work that may be required and that should be pursued with a change order or separate proposal.
  • Maintain required paperwork (daily job tickets as necessary).
  • Maintain work vehicle (oil changes, and other required services).
  • Keep company vehicle neat, clean and representative of our high standards.
  • Make recommendations to supervisors for ways that will improve the department and make the department more profitable.
  • Maintain job site conditions and standards (cleaning work areas daily).
