Provides planning and management in the safe and efficient installation of new HVAC equipment, components, and systems in commercial and/or residential settings.
Manages and develops the installation staff, including hiring, terminating, disciplining employees, scheduling, setting work priorities, conducting staff meetings, counseling, training, evaluating performance, and directing work assignments to ensure effective production. Evaluates workload and schedules installation work to optimize manpower and maximize output. Interfaces with homeowners, building inspectors, and project managers to identify installation needs and maintain good customer relations. Monitors production, efficiency, and quality control at job sites. Generates reports on departmental operations, inventory, tools, and vehicles, and reviews these with management. Prepares reports on production, vehicle, and material usage. Assesses staff training needs and provides on-the-job training and support. Ensures proper use of materials and quality workmanship. Reviews payroll records for accuracy and verifies job completion. May conduct job site surveys and resolve customer issues. Oversees vehicle maintenance, manages a sales team and approves pricing, and ensures proper maintenance of facilities and equipment. Coordinates work with subcontractors as needed.
A High School diploma or GED is required, with 6-8 years of HVAC installation experience. Related experience, advanced training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may suffice. Knowledge of carpentry, gas piping, electricity, and airflow is required. Journeyman licensure is preferred. A valid driver’s license is necessary. Candidates should possess knowledge of local codes and industry standards. Strong supervisory, communication, computer, and mathematical skills are essential.
