Job summary

CBRE is seeking a Commercial HVAC Engineer to support a large campus in San Jose, CA. The role involves maintenance, repairs, and installation tasks on building systems, equipment, and instruments, with a 12-hour shift from Saturday to Tuesday (every other Wednesday), 5:45am–6:15pm.

The position requires 4–5 years of related experience, EPA I & II or Universal preferred, and ability to manage physical tasks and supervisor responsibilities. CBRE offers medical, dental, vision, 401k, PTO, and more.

Qualifications

  • 4–5 years of related experience; prior shift manager or supervisory experience preferred.
  • EPA I & II, Universal preferred.
  • Able to meet physical requirements including standing, stooping, walking, stairs, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Proficient with CMMS and Microsoft Office suite.

Responsibilities

  • Install, repair, and maintain HVAC/R systems and related instruments.
  • Inspect equipment to ensure safe, compliant operation and codes adherence.
  • Diagnose failures and determine best course of action for repairs or modifications.
  • Mentor others and share knowledge across related job fields.
  • Lead by example and align with CBRE RISE values to build consensus.
  • Diagnose and repair self-contained refrigeration units (4°C, –20°C, –80°C).

As a CBRE HVAC Engineer, this job will support a large campus in San Jose, CA that requires an expert commercial HVAC technician to perform maintenance, repair, and installation tasks on building systems, equipment, and instruments.

This job is part of the Engineering and Technical Services job function. They are responsible for providing support, preventive maintenance, and repairs on equipment and systems.

12 hour day Schedule: Saturday - Tuesday, every other Wednesday, 5:45am-6:15pm
What You’ll Do
  • Install, repair, adjust, service and maintain electrical, steam, and chilled water systems used for building HVAC/R systems and equipment, including calibration of related instruments, gauges, and control components.
  • Inspect and conduct ongoing maintenance on building HVAC equipment to ensure accurate operation of equipment and compliance with all applicable codes, regulations, and work safety.
  • Fix equipment failures and identify the best course of action for equipment modifications.
  • Mentor others and share in-depth knowledge of own job subject area and broad knowledge of several job fields within the function.
  • Lead by example and model behaviors that are consistent with CBRE RISE values. Work to build consensus and convince others to reach an agreement.
  • Impact a range of customer, operational, project or service activities within own team and other related teams.
  • Work within broad guidelines and policies.
  • Work with BMS routinely to supervise, adjust, and tackle building.
  • Diagnose and repair self-contained refrigeration equipment such as 4°C, –20°C, and –80°C units.
What You’ll Need
  • High School Diploma, GED, or trade school diploma or equivalent experience required, with 4-5 years of job-related experience. Prior shift manager or supervisory experience preferred.
  • EPA I & II, Universal preferred.
  • Meet the physical requirements of this role including stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs, and the ability to carry heavy loads of 50 lbs. or more.
  • Ability to exercise judgment based on the analysis of multiple sources of information.
  • Willingness to take a new perspective on existing solutions.
  • Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and CMMS
  • Organizational skills with a sophisticated inquisitive attitude.
