Job summary

Orano USA is seeking an HVAC Engineer for the Oak Ridge Project IKE, a permanent in‑office role focused on high‑integrity HVAC systems for a national security nuclear enrichment facility.

You will lead design, installation, and commissioning of climate control systems, from precision cooling to large‑scale ventilation, ensuring compliance with nuclear standards and safety requirements. The role includes collaboration with multi‑discipline teams and oversight of vendor submittals.

Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering required.
  • 3–7 years of engineering experience.
  • PE license preferred; MS may substitute for 1–2 years experience.
  • Experience with HVAC design for nuclear facilities is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical authority on HVAC systems and mentor junior engineers.
  • Coordinate HVAC work by the EPC contractor to ensure design intent and safety standards.
  • Ensure HVAC activities comply with ASHRAE, SMACNA, NFPA, DOE/NRC requirements.
  • Develop and approve design docs: flow diagrams, duct layouts, equipment specs, load calcs, control sequences.
  • Collaborate with process, mechanical, electrical, and nuclear safety engineers to integrate HVAC.
  • Evaluate vendor equipment specs, submittals, and drawings for technical accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Support safety and reliability assessments including ventilation performance and testing protocols.
  • Conduct site visits, inspections, and commissioning activities for HVAC systems.
  • Represent the organization in technical reviews, audits, and inspections with clients and regulators.
  • Contribute to project planning, cost estimating, scheduling, and risk mitigation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the technical authority on HVAC systems, providing mentorship to junior engineers and reviewing deliverables.

  • Ensure all HVAC design and construction activities comply with applicable codes and standards (ASHRAE, SMACNA, NFPA, DOE/NRC requirements).

This position requires access to classified national security information.
