Job description

Hunton Services, a division of the Hunton Group in Houston, TX (www.huntongroup.com), is seeking to hire an HVAC Electrical Engineer/Designer to serve as a technical resource in our Engineered Products business. In this role, the selected individual will design custom HVAC equipment, coordinate materials selection, and provide technical consultation to customers by communicating overall project concepts for our commercial projects. This position requires a strong understanding of control and power systems, and a high level of oral and written correspondence with our Engineering team and customers. This position is located in zip code: 77087.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with customers to define project requirements, constraints, and responsibilities, ensuring system design, installation, and maintenance meet customer needs and code compliance.
  • Work with the team to design custom HVAC equipment, with a focus on electrical and control components, including:
    • Air handler units
    • Explosion-proof equipment
    • Pressurization units
    • Air- and water-cooled package units
    • Rental units
    • Skid-mounted redundant systems
    • Electrical wiring systems and control panels
  • Create 2D and 3D designs for components and equipment using AutoDesk Inventor.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed engineering documentation throughout project lifecycles.
  • Develop Electrical & Controls Bills of Material (BOM) for each project.

Opportunities for Growth:

  • Expand knowledge of mechanical components in custom HVAC equipment through team mentorship.
  • Gain expertise in selecting mechanical materials and components to meet project specifications.
  • Learn to estimate project costs by sourcing materials and equipment from vendors and calculating labor hours for installation.
  • Work collaboratively with facilities staff, building trades, and head engineers to address needs, goals, and design modifications.
  • Provide technical consultation to customers on project concepts, layouts, and designs, including the preparation of comprehensive drawing packages and submittals.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of industrial electrical codes such as NEC, CSA, and NFPA70.
  • Familiarity with electrical panel design (preferred).
  • Willingness to learn HVAC fundamentals, including:
    • Psychometrics
    • Load estimating
    • Equipment selection and system design
    • Cooling and heating systems
    • Control and power systems for HVAC mechanical systems
  • Proficiency with design software, including Microsoft Office Suite, AutoDesk AutoCAD, AutoDesk Inventor, and/or SolidWorks.
  • Ability to read and interpret systems engineering drawings.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience designing UL508A panels.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) License.
