BestLogic Staffing is seeking an HVAC Design Engineer to design and develop heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems for commercial and residential construction projects in Hartford, CT.

The HVAC Design Engineer will perform load calculations, determine ventilation requirements, prepare system layouts, develop construction drawings, estimate project costs, and coordinate designs with architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders using Revit and AutoCAD.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Two to four years of professional HVAC design experience.
  • Proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Experience preparing HVAC drawings, layouts, schematics, and construction documents.
  • Knowledge of heating and cooling load calculations, ventilation requirements, ductwork design, and piping-system design.

Responsibilities

  • Design HVAC systems and controls based on project specs, building requirements, and customer needs.
  • Perform heating and cooling load calculations to determine system capacities and equipment requirements.
  • Calculate ventilation and airflow requirements per codes and specs.
  • Select and size HVAC equipment (air-handling units, rooftops, split systems, boilers, chillers, pumps, fans).
  • Design ductwork, piping, ventilation, and mechanical layouts.
  • Prepare and revise HVAC plans using Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Review architectural drawings and specifications for coordination.
  • Coordinate HVAC designs with architecture, structure, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection.
  • Develop equipment specifications, material requirements, and cost estimates.
  • Review submittals and product data for design compliance.
  • Identify design conflicts and propose practical solutions.
  • Provide technical support during construction and site visits.
  • Participate in design reviews and project meetings to meet schedules.

BestLogic Staffing is seeking an HVAC Design Engineer to design and develop heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems for commercial and residential construction projects.

The HVAC Design Engineer will perform load calculations, determine ventilation requirements, prepare system layouts, develop construction drawings, estimate project costs, and coordinate designs with architects, engineers, contractors, and other project stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have two to four years of HVAC design experience and proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design HVAC systems and associated controls based on project specifications, building requirements, and customer needs.
  • Perform heating and cooling load calculations to determine appropriate system capacities and equipment requirements.
  • Calculate ventilation and airflow requirements in accordance with applicable codes and project specifications.
  • Select and size HVAC equipment, including air-handling units, rooftop units, split systems, boilers, chillers, pumps, fans, and related components.
  • Design ductwork, piping, ventilation, and mechanical-system layouts.
  • Prepare and revise HVAC plans, schematics, details, schedules, and construction documents using Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Review and interpret architectural drawings, construction plans, specifications, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Coordinate HVAC designs with architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, and fire-protection systems.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, vendors, and clients throughout the design and construction process.
  • Develop equipment specifications, material requirements, and detailed project cost estimates.
  • Review equipment submittals, shop drawings, and product data to confirm compliance with design requirements.
  • Identify design conflicts and recommend practical, cost-effective solutions.
  • Respond to requests for information and provide technical support during construction.
  • Participate in project meetings, design reviews, site visits, and field inspections as required.
  • Ensure HVAC designs comply with applicable building codes, energy codes, ventilation standards, and permitting requirements.
  • Maintain accurate design documentation and complete assigned projects within established schedules and budgets.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Two to four years of professional HVAC design experience.
  • Proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Experience preparing HVAC drawings, layouts, schematics, and construction documents.
  • Knowledge of heating and cooling load calculations, ventilation requirements, ductwork design, and piping-system design.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, engineering plans, technical specifications, and construction documents.
  • Understanding of HVAC equipment selection, sizing, and application.
  • Working knowledge of applicable mechanical, building, energy, and ventilation codes.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary design and construction teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing HVAC systems for commercial, industrial, institutional, or multifamily properties.
  • Familiarity with applicable ASHRAE standards and mechanical and energy codes.
  • Experience with HVAC load-calculation or energy-modeling software.
  • Experience reviewing equipment submittals and supporting projects during construction.
  • Engineer-in-Training certification or progress toward professional engineering licensure is a plus.
