Job summary

Johnson Controls is seeking an experienced HVAC Journeyman Mechanic to join a commercial service team. You will diagnose, repair, and maintain a range of HVAC systems, from chillers to rooftop units, while prioritizing safety and delivering top-tier service.

You’ll travel 10–20% regionally, document actions for customers, and collaborate with apprentices. EPA certification, valid license, and UA affiliation are required. Competitive wages and benefits accompany this role.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3-5 years of commercial/industrial HVAC experience.
• Universal EPA refrigerant certification.
• Valid current driver’s license.
• Proficiency in mechanical alignment and vibration diagnostics.
• Ability to communicate clearly with customers and document service actions.
• Willingness to join the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices (UA).
• Self-motivated, safety-focused, and eager to learn.
• Ability to pass a technical proficiency exam.

Responsibilities

• Diagnosing and repairing commercial HVAC systems (chillers, boilers, compressors, pumps, fans, etc.).
• Performing maintenance and replacements on mechanical systems.
• Troubleshooting advanced systems including centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, screw chillers, and ammonia/hydrocarbon components.
• Conducting mechanical shaft alignment and vibration analysis.
• Installing complete HVAC systems and supporting infrastructure.
• Providing expert recommendations and quotes for system upgrades and repairs.
• Collaborating with apprentices and other mechanics to share knowledge and ensure top-tier service.
• Traveling 10–20% to support customer needs across the region.
• Prioritizing safety in every task.

Hiring Compensation Range: $29.50 - 36.87 Is determined by the Local UA. (Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
