This role serves as a lead technician, providing hands‑on service while mentoring junior technicians and identifying opportunities to improve system efficiency and reliability. The position demands strong technical expertise, customer service skills, and a commitment to safety and quality workmanship. Because project locations are situated in different areas of the country, regular travel is required. There is also the opportunity for cross‑training in HVAC, chillers, mechanical systems, and emergency power generators to support broader service capabilities.

Supervisory / Leadership Responsibilities

  • Serve as Lead HVAC/Chiller Technician in the scheduling and servicing of commercial mechanical equipment.
  • Take a leadership role in the development and on-the-job training of junior technicians in commercial HVAC maintenance and repair.
  • Help define the training, materials, tools, and best practices needed to support the HVAC maintenance program.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform maintenance and repair on mechanical systems including air‑cooled chillers, centrifugal chillers, pumps, cooling towers, air‑handling units (AHUs), valves, fan‑coil units, variable air volume (VAV) systems, and related equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair electronic, mechanical, and electrical components associated with these systems.
  • Oversee the installation and proper operation of various mechanical systems.
  • Identify and correct machine and equipment defects.
  • Execute routine preventive maintenance according to manufacturer recommendations and company standards.
  • Coordinate with dispatch to maintain schedules and communicate delays effectively to customers.
  • Be available to work nights or weekends as needed to address emergency service requirements.
  • Maintain company vehicles in good working order, including regular refueling, washing, and prompt reporting of mechanical issues. Ensure vehicles are properly stocked with parts, tools, and safety equipment at all times.
  • Document all equipment work thoroughly, including make, model, serial number, test measurements, and photographs as required.
  • Diagnose service issues, obtain necessary replacement parts, calibrate systems to manufacturer specifications, and clearly explain findings and recommended corrections to the customer.
  • Communicate progress and issues to dispatch, parts procurement, supervisors, and managers to keep both the company and customers informed.
  • Complete detailed, accurate, and timely paperwork as required.
  • Identify and report potential opportunities for additional business to the supervisor or manager.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Strong technical knowledge of commercial HVAC and chiller systems, including mechanical, electrical, and electronic components.
  • Proven diagnostic and problem-solving ability with critical‑thinking skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret manufacturer designs, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Strong prioritization, multitasking, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent customer‑service orientation with a commitment to exceeding customer expectations.
  • Ability to work independently, complete work correctly the first time, and meet deadlines.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills for internal coordination and customer interaction.
  • Ability to train and mentor junior technicians effectively.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive experience in HVAC/chiller maintenance, repair, or a closely related commercial mechanical field.
  • Current EPA Section 608 certification for refrigerant handling required.
  • Familiarity with manufacturer designs, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and demonstrated ability to train junior technicians preferred.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
