COMPANY SUMMARY: A third generation family-owned business, Shapiro & Duncan has been serving customers in DC, Maryland and Virginia since 1976. The company is known for their award-winning company culture and complex commercial, government and institutional design-build projects that require first-rate performance, work quality and customer service. We specialize in full service mechanical solutions which include engineering, coordination, prefabrication assembly, construction, service and maintenance.

JOB SUMMARY: Through classroom and on-the-job training (OJT), learns and applies fundamentals of the HVAC trade.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Able to work Monday-Friday with occasional evenings and weekends as needed. Must be flexible with schedule.
  2. Reliable transportation to the site in Sterling, VA.
  3. 0-1 years of prior experience as a laborer, skilled laborer, helper, or in another related trade.
  4. Satisfactory background check and initial/random drug tests.
  5. Dependable and reliable.
  6. Works well with team, including other trades.
  7. Inquisitive: wants to learn; asks questions.
  8. Communicates effectively in English.
  9. Able to lift five to fifty pounds (5-50lbs), with or without assistance, frequently.
  10. Able to sit, stand, bend, walk, climb, and remain in static positions for the duration of the shift.
  11. Able to withstand exposure to heights, tight/confined spaces; work in dusty areas; work in temperature extremes; be exposed to external elements (wind, rain, snow, etc).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Attend apprentice classes in trade and maintain OJT logs.
  2. Work under immediate supervision of SR HVAC Tech or HVAC Tech to assemble/complete work.
  3. Learn appropriate HVAC code.
  4. Learn how to read blueprints and use them to install HVAC systems.
  5. Assemble work laid out by HVAC Tech.
  6. Learn how to cut and thread up to 2" pipe; sweat and solder pipe; tack-weld steel pipe; cut steel pipe with torch.
  7. Learn fitting techniques.
  8. Learn about specifications.
  9. Learn the mechanics and principles of HVAC.
  10. Maintain a professional appearance and attitude.
  11. Perform arithmetic calculations (add/subtract/multiply/divide, including fractions and decimals).
  12. Any other duties requested by Supervisor.
