Job summary

Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana seeks adjunct faculty to teach HVAC/R courses across Indiana campuses. This temporary, part-time role supports student success by delivering instruction and using approved syllabi.

Responsibilities include lectures, attendance/grade records, student assistance, and using Ivy Learn and PowerPoint. Attractive for professionals with 5+ years in HVAC/R and relevant certifications.

Qualifications

  • 5 years of field experience in HVAC/R.
  • Strong working knowledge of current instructional technologies as applicable to the area of instruction.
  • Basic sheet metal, commercial refrigeration service and electrical experience preferred.
  • Sales and managerial experience a plus.

  • Provide syllabus appropriate to course(s) and follow syllabus content.

  • Be available to students outside scheduled class time to assist.
  • Handle student concerns and consult with program coordinator when needed.
  • Meet all scheduled classes of contracted course(s).
  • Use Ivy Learn, PowerPoint, and other tech as appropriate.
  • Notify department chair in case of emergency absence.
  • Promote diversity and inclusion in all activities.

Job description

General Purpose and Scope of the position: Adjunct Faculty positions are temporary, part-time positions hired each semester on an as-needed basis. The adjunct faculty member will be responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided by the School.

The adjunct faculty member will be responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided by the School.

Major Responsibilities
  • Perform all instructional duties necessary to teach and facilitate student learning in assigned classes.
  • Provide syllabus appropriate to course(s) being taught to students and follows syllabus content and requirements.
  • Maintain student attendance and grading records according to College policy as outlined in the Adjunct Handbook.
  • Submits requested information within established timelines.
  • Is available to students outside scheduled class time to answer questions/provide assistance.
  • Deal with student concerns and, if necessary, consult with program coordinator to resolve issues.
  • Meet all scheduled classes of contracted course(s).
  • Use technology such as Ivy Learn, PowerPoint, etc. as appropriate.
  • In event of emergency absence, notifies program/department chair.
  • Conduct all activities with an appreciation and respect for diversity of people, styles, and views.
  • Promote same as an integral part of one's work.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must have strong working knowledge of current technologies appropriate to area of instruction, faculty credentials as outlined in the ASOM 7.1 as applicable to the specific area of instruction.
  • 5 years of field experience in the HVAC/R trade.
  • Basic sheet metal, commercial refrigeration service and electrical experience preferred.
  • Sales and managerial experience a plus.
