Job summary

The Planet Group is hiring a Project Engineer 1 in Atlanta, GA, focusing on high-voltage utility substations. The role blends hands-on design with project management across planning through closeout, working in a hybrid model with two days in the office and flexibility for remote work.

Qualifications include 5+ years in electric utilities, a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, AutoCAD Electrical, and SDS experience. PE license is a plus; ANSI/IEEE/NEC knowledge is expected.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in the electric utility industry.
• Significant experience with high-voltage electrical substations.
• ABET-accredited Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• AutoCAD Electrical experience required.
• Experience with Substation Design Suite (SDS) is a strong plus.
• PE license is a plus.
• Knowledge of ANSI, ASTM, ACI, AISC, IEEE, NEC, and NESC standards.
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a complex environment.

Responsibilities

• Manage high-voltage substation projects from planning through design, permitting, construction support, and closeout.
• Oversee and review detailed engineering and design work.
• Develop and review substation layouts, schematics, and calculations.
• Support proposals, estimates, and project controls.
• Coordinate with internal teams, utilities, governments, and stakeholders.
• Monitor budgets, schedules, quality, and regulatory compliance.
• Provide construction support and technical guidance during execution.
• Maintain project documentation and engineering records.
