Job summary

United Nations in New York seeks a Humanitarian Affairs Officer (P4) to provide policy guidance on principled humanitarian action, sanctions and related measures, and to coordinate with partner agencies to ensure effective field operations.

The role requires five years of humanitarian experience and advanced academic credentials; prior field work is desirable. The incumbent will prepare policy documents and engage with multiple stakeholders to advance principled humanitarian action.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree required; a first-level degree with additional experience may be accepted in lieu of advanced degree.
• Minimum five years of progressively responsible humanitarian experience; field experience desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide policy and technical advice on principled humanitarian access and operations, including sanctions and counter-terrorism.
• Serve as OCHA expert on sanctions and related measures, coordinating with UN and IASC entities.
• Coordinate with humanitarian agencies to plan and evaluate programs, ensuring gender considerations.
• Prepare written reports, background papers, policy guidelines and briefings.
• Organize work groups and meetings on humanitarian and policy-related matters.
• Supervise junior staff as needed.
• Perform other duties as required.

Education

Master's degree or equivalent in political science, social science, international studies, public administration, economics, engineering, earth sciences or related field
