Job summary

JBS USA is seeking a Humane Handler to ensure humane handling of hogs, supervise unloading, and enforce SOPs across shifts. The role requires strong initiative and the ability to work without direct supervision in a livestock-heavy environment.

Qualifications

• Must be able to work with live hogs and follow humane handling guidelines.
• Knowledge of meat industry is preferred.
• High School degree or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Basic math skills and good people skills are essential.

Responsibilities

• Verify that humane handling SOPs are carried out, including scheduling, unloading, training, and handling of non-ambulatory animals.
• Assist with difficult hogs in the truck and drive alleys; monitor slow hog movement and ensure SOP coverage.
• Maintain communication with USDA/FSIS regarding humane handling.
• Ensure proper transport of animals by monitoring equipment and seasonal prep.
• Participate in the Animal Welfare Team and attend scheduled meetings.

Responsibilities

• Verify that all humane handling SOP's are being carried out, including scheduling, unloading, training, and handling of non-ambulatory animals.
• Including hands on helping with difficult hogs - both in the truck and the drive alleys.
• Monitor/assist in slow hog movement & correct SOP coverage.
• These activities periodically (as time allows) will be monitored, audits may be performed as needed and document deficiencies.
• Maintain good communication with USDA/FSIS in matters related to humane handling.
• Ensure that animals are being properly transported by monitoring equipment and seasonal preparation.
• Assist in response to emergency situations.
• Maintain implementation of the four elements of the Systematic Approach during each shift.
• Participate on facility Animal Welfare Team.
• Performs various other duties as determined by the Livestock Handling Manager.
• Attend scheduled and called meetings.
• Observe and assist transporters to verify that company procedures and USDA rules and regulations are being followed with respect to receiving and unloading hogs.
