Job description

Human services professionals play a critical role in improving lives and strengthening communities. We are seeking an engaging and student-centered Human Services Instructor who is committed to excellence in teaching and dedicated to helping students develop the knowledge, skills, and professional values necessary for successful careers in human services. This is an opportunity to inspire future advocates, support student growth, and contribute to a program that serves as an important pathway into helping professions that positively impact individuals, families, and communities. As a Human Services Instructor at SUNY Niagara, you’ll have the opportunity to share your expertise, inspire future advocates and helping professionals, and contribute to a program that makes a meaningful difference.

This position is part of the Promoting Recruitment, Opportunity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Growth Plus Community College (PRODiG+CC) program. This is an initiative supported by SUNY system committed to: (1) increasing the number and share of excellent diverse community college faculty committed to advancing the ideals of diversity, equity, and inclusion; (2) strengthening the pipeline for retention and support of these candidates; and (3) hiring qualified faculty directly into tenure-track positions to support the community colleges’ efforts to build an educated workforce in the state.

The start date of this position will be January 8, 2027, for the beginning of the Spring 2027 semester. The successful candidate will be required to work only 162 days per academic year (August – May) and will be provided with a winter break from mid-December to early January, a Spring Break for one week in mid-March. Faculty are not required to work in June, July, and most of August, but opportunities for teaching summer classes exist.

In addition to the base salary, there is the potential for overload and other assignments, which would increase the base salary. There is also a pathway for promotion to higher-level salary positions (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor).

Required Qualifications:

  • Be eligible to work in the United States without a visa sponsorship;
  • Have a Master’s degree in social work, counseling, rehabilitive services, or a related field from an accredited institution completed prior to the state date; and
  • Demonstrate personal, academic, and/or work experience engaging with diversity, equity, and inclusion and/or a commitment to facilitating and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in the campus community. Such experience may include, but is not limited to, an academic/scholarly track record focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion; work, volunteer/ unpaid/community service; or related experience/expertise in serving underserved or vulnerable areas and/or populations.

Desirable Qualfications:

  • LMSW or LCSW State License,
  • Doctorate of Social Work,
  • Prior teaching experience at the college level or experience with classroom technologies.

Preference will be given to candidates who are:

  • Current SUNY students, alumni and/or Fellows
  • From a low-income background (e.g. Pell-eligible as undergraduates), were first-generation college students (students whose parents have not earned a bachelor’s degree), have overcome adversity, are AmeriCorps alumni, or are veterans.
