Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction seeks an HR Technician I (S) at Bertie Correctional Institution in Windsor to maintain personnel records, process hiring and termination paperwork, and support onboarding and benefits enrollment.

This full-time, 40-hour week role reports to the Administrative Officer and requires handling confidential files, assisting with leave and other HR inquiries within the Division of Institutions.

Description of Work

This position is located at Bertie Correctional Institution in Windsor, NC. Reporting to the Administrative Officer at a multi-level custody male correctional facility with approximately 275 employees.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

The primary duties of this position will include but are not limited to:

• Maintain and update employee personnel records and HR databases.
• Process new-hire, transfer, promotion, leave, and termination paperwork. Assist with onboarding and orientation
• Maintain confidential employee files and ensure records are properly organized and retained
• Assist with benefit enrollment, changes and employee inquires
• Process and maintain documentation related to leave, attendance, accommodations, and other employee matters
• Assist employees and supervisors with routine HR questions and requests.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. Work Schedule is Monday - Friday, 8hr/day schedule.

Salary Range

$33,902 - $59,327

Preferred Experience

• Documented experience applying HR policy and procedures.

About the Division of Institutions

The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.
