The Human Resources Specialist at Weber School District in Ogden, Utah (onsite) administers key leave and accommodation programs and acts as a primary contact for employee questions related to benefits, eligibility, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and manage FMLA, paid parental leave, ADA accommodations, workers’ compensation leave, and district retirement benefits.
- Coordinate with the payroll team to ensure employees on FMLA, parental leave, STD, LTD, and workers’ compensation are paid appropriately.
- Support the HR ESP Coordinator with open enrollment, benefit fairs, and presentations.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee inquiries regarding leaves, accommodations, and benefits by providing guidance, resolving issues, and responding in a timely and professional manner.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state employment regulations, including HIPAA, ADA, FMLA, PWFA, workers’ compensation, and paid parental leave.
- Create and distribute employee communication materials to explain FMLA, ADA, paid parental leave, and other relevant information.
- Maintain accurate and current records related to FMLA, ADA, paid parental leave, workers’ compensation, and other relevant program details.
- Assist the Human Resources Director with audits of employee leaves, claims, and program costs to support accuracy, compliance, and cost-effectiveness.
- Analyze trends in usage and costs and prepare reports that provide strategic insights into the effectiveness of benefits offerings.
- Support the Human Resources Director and HR ESP Coordinator with coordination of wellness activities, including occasional Saturdays to assist with wellness events.
- Based on audit and analysis findings, develop and present recommendations to improve the benefits program with a focus on cost optimization, employee satisfaction, and alignment with organizational goals.
- Provide training and support to HR colleagues and employees on FMLA, ADA, parental leave, retirement, and related topics, including self-service tools and resources.
- Coordinate with insurance providers or third-party administrators to support smooth administration of employer-paid benefits.
- Support the HR Directors by preparing and organizing presentations, documents, and reports.
Required Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred in Human Resources or a business-related field.
- Prior experience in Human Resources or a related role.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong understanding of FMLA, ADA, PWFA, employee benefits laws and regulations, including Utah State paid parental leave and related compliance requirements.
- Proficiency with Google Suite, Canva, HRIS systems, and benefits administration software.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment, including copiers and multi-line telephone systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex benefits concepts to employees at all levels.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Experience in auditing, analyzing benefits programs, and providing strategic insights.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
- Attendance is essential.
