Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Human Resources Manager to oversee all HR functions within our repossession company. The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in California employment laws and compliance, coupled with a hands-on approach to supporting a dynamic workforce. This role is responsible for employee relations, compliance, performance management and HR policies to ensure our team operates efficiently and within legal and ethical standards. This position is a remote position, but must be available to work during California time zone hours.
Responsibilities
- Compliance & Regulation
- Ensure full compliance with various state and federal employment laws, including wage and hour laws, leaves of absence, and employee classification.
- Conduct regular audits of HR practices and documentation to mitigate legal risks.
- Ensure all hiring practices comply with state and federal laws, including Fair Chance and EEO guidelines.
- Employee Relations & Culture
- Serve as a trusted point of contact for employees and managers regarding HR policies, workplace concerns, and conflict resolution.
- Foster a positive, respectful, and compliant workplace culture aligned with company values.
- Investigate complaints and resolve employee relations issues in accordance with company policy and legal requirements.
- Policy Development & Administration
- Develop, implement, and update HR policies and the employee handbook in accordance with changing California labor laws and company needs.
- Advise management on policy interpretation and best practices.
- Performance Management & Training
- Oversee annual performance review processes and support leadership with coaching and disciplinary actions.
- HR Operations
- Manage payroll and benefits administration in coordination with accounting and external vendors.
- Maintain accurate and confidential employee records in compliance with legal requirements.
- Monitor and report on key HR metrics such as turnover, retention, and workforce trends.
Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum 3–5 years of HR management experience, preferably within the repossession, towing, automotive, logistics, or field services industries.
- In-depth knowledge of California labor laws and HR compliance is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Strong understanding of HR best practices and employment law.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient with HRIS systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and payroll platforms.
