Job summary

Mitsubishi Power Americas is seeking an HR Manager to lead the HR function and align people strategies with business priorities. You will partner with leadership, Legal, and HR colleagues to drive talent attraction, engagement, and retention while ensuring scalable, compliant practices across the organization.

The role combines strategic business partnership with hands-on HR operations, including onboarding, employee relations, performance management, and payroll-related activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Management, or related field; master’s degree preferred.
  • Six+ years of progressive HR experience, strong HR business partnership, employee relations, process ownership, and compliance.
  • Experience leading HR teams; 2+ years of direct people management preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, improve, and streamline HR processes.
  • Proven ability to partner with business leaders and translate goals into people solutions.
  • In-depth knowledge of HR principles: recruitment, onboarding, performance, benefits, and compliance.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, consultation, and negotiation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead HR function and oversee HR Specialist and Recruiters.
  • Partner with leaders to translate priorities into HR initiatives.
  • Coach managers on performance, development, and actions.
  • Oversee onboarding, employee relations, performance, and retention processes.

Role Overview

This role combines hands-on HR leadership with strategic business partnership. Initially, the position will have a strong tactical and operational focus, optimizing HR processes for consistency, compliance, and scalability. As the HR function matures within the business unit, the role will increasingly translate business priorities into practical people strategies that strengthen talent attraction, employee engagement, organizational effectiveness, performance, and retention.

The HR Manager provides functional leadership and oversight to the HR Specialist and Recruiters, serves as the escalation point for complex HR matters, and partners closely with leadership, Legal, and HR colleagues across the business. This position reports to the Senior Director of Human Resources.

Key Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates our core competencies: Action oriented, change champion, customer-focused, developing self & others, and ownership
  • Build trusted relationships with business leaders, understand priorities, and translate business needs into actionable HR initiatives.
  • Act as the primary escalation point for complex, sensitive, or high-risk employee relations matters; coach managers on performance, corrective action, employee development, and communications.
  • Own and continuously improve core employee lifecycle processes, including onboarding, employee relations, performance management, career development, engagement, retention, benefits and leave administration, and employee recordkeeping.
  • Identify process inefficiencies, compliance risks, and opportunities to simplify, standardize, and scale HR practices; develop solutions that may be replicated across other sites.
  • Ensure HR practices comply with federal, state, and local employment laws, company policies, and internal requirements; partner with Legal, Safety, and other areas of the business to mitigate risk and support consistent policy application.
  • Guide recruiting priorities and strategies, support interviewing and selection activities as needed, and partner with leaders on workforce planning, staffing forecasts, position needs, and organizational changes aligned with production demands and business objectives.
  • Provide guidance on compensation, benefits, and leave programs, including health and welfare plans, PTO, leaves of absence, disability benefits, and employee assistance resources.
  • Coordinate and deliver manager training and support related to interviewing, hiring, performance management, employee relations, employee communications, and other HR topics.
  • Review and analyze HR metrics, including headcount, turnover, hiring effectiveness, and employee relations trends; use data-driven insights to recommend practical improvements and provide reporting and risk assessments.
  • Stay current on HR trends, employment practices, and evolving business needs to continuously improve HR support.
  • Partner with HR leaders across sites and business units to align best practices, tools, and shared processes.
  • Up to 10% overnight travel by land and/or air may be required to support multisite alignment or business unit initiatives
  • Support special projects and other HR or site initiatives as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Management, or a related field; master’s degree preferred.
  • Six or more years of progressive HR experience, strong experience in HR business partnership, employee relations, process ownership, and compliance.
  • Experience providing functional leadership to HR team members; two or more years of direct people management experience preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated experience developing, improving, and streamlining HR processes.
  • Proven ability to partner with business leaders and translate strategic or operational goals into effective people solutions.
  • In-depth knowledge of HR principles and practices, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, employee relations, compensation, benefits, and compliance.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, consultation, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, handle sensitive information, and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; experience with SuccessFactors and UKG a plus.
