Job description

We are seeking an experienced Human Resources Manager to lead all HR operations for our manufacturing site in Sidney, Ohio. This role will serve as a key member of the site leadership team and act as the primary HR partner to plant management.

The ideal candidate will have strong HR leadership experience in a manufacturing environment, hands-on knowledge of U.S. employment and labor law, and demonstrated experience managing employee relations and labor relations matters, including working in unionized environments or responding to union organizing activity.

This is a fully on-site position requiring close engagement with plant leadership, frontline supervisors, and employees.

Key Responsibilities
HR Leadership and Plant Partnership
  • Lead the overall HR function for the manufacturing site and provide strategic and operational HR support to plant leadership.
  • Partner with the Plant Manager and functional leaders on workforce planning, organizational design, productivity improvement, and operational readiness.
  • Translate business and production needs into practical HR plans and workforce solutions.
  • Build an effective, compliant, and performance-oriented workplace culture.
Employee and Labor Relations
  • Lead employee relations and labor relations matters across the site.
  • Provide guidance on workplace investigations, disciplinary actions, performance issues, grievances, complaints, and terminations.
  • Maintain constructive relationships with employees, frontline supervisors, and employee representatives.
  • Support the company in responding lawfully and effectively to union organizing activity, representation matters, grievances, negotiations, and other labor relations issues.
  • Where applicable, administer collective bargaining agreements and support collective bargaining preparation and negotiations.
  • Train managers and supervisors on positive employee relations, lawful management practices, documentation, and issue resolution.
  • Identify employee relations risks early and develop appropriate mitigation and communication plans.
HR Operations and Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with federal, Ohio, and local employment and labor laws, including FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO, OSHA-related HR requirements, and NLRA obligations.
  • Develop, implement, and consistently administer HR policies, procedures, and employee handbook provisions.
  • Oversee attendance management, leave administration, payroll coordination, benefits administration, employee records, and HR reporting.
  • Conduct or oversee workplace investigations and maintain accurate, confidential documentation.
  • Partner with internal and external legal counsel on complex employment and labor matters.
  • Monitor HR metrics, including headcount, turnover, absenteeism, overtime, vacancies, labor cost, and employee relations cases.
Talent Acquisition and Workforce Development
  • Lead workforce planning and recruitment for production, technical, professional, and management positions.
  • Develop local recruitment channels and partnerships to support plant staffing requirements.
  • Improve onboarding, orientation, training, and retention programs for hourly and salaried employees.
  • Support succession planning, leadership development, performance management, and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Strengthen the people‑management capabilities of supervisors and department managers.
  • Work effectively with both U.S.-based and international leadership teams.
  • Facilitate clear communication between the local site and global headquarters.
  • Help global stakeholders understand U.S. employment practices, workplace expectations, and labor relations requirements.
  • Support the localization and continued development of the U.S. organization.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Labor Relations, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
  • At least 8 years of progressive HR experience, including significant experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • At least 3 years of experience leading an HR function or serving as the senior HR representative at a plant or operating site.
  • Demonstrated experience handling labor relations and union‑related matters.
  • Experience in a unionized facility, union organizing campaign, collective bargaining, grievance handling, or labor contract administration is strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. federal employment and labor law and applicable Ohio requirements.
  • Proven experience managing investigations, disciplinary actions, terminations, attendance issues, and complex employee relations cases.
  • Experience supporting both hourly production employees and salaried professionals.
  • Strong business judgment and the ability to balance operational needs, employee relations, and legal compliance.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, influencing, and conflict‑resolution skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast‑paced, evolving manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working in a multinational or cross‑cultural organization is preferred.
  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM‑CP, SHRM‑SCP, or labor relations certification is preferred.
