Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
  • 3+ years of human resources, payroll, or related experience preferred
  • Hands-on experience processing payroll and working within an HRIS or payroll system strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of payroll practices, wage and hour requirements, payroll deductions, general HR compliance and multi-state payroll
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion

Responsibilities

  • Process payroll accurately and on schedule, including wages, overtime, bonuses, commissions, deductions, and reimbursements
  • Review timekeeping and payroll data for accuracy before processing
  • Maintain payroll information for new hires, terminations, pay changes, tax elections, and deductions
  • Respond to employee questions regarding pay, taxes, and deductions
  • Audit payroll reports and reconcile data to ensure accuracy
  • Assist with payroll reporting, quarter-end and year-end activities
  • Maintain confidential payroll records per regulations and company policy
  • Coordinate with Finance on payroll funding, reconciliations and reporting
  • Work with payroll vendors/HRIS to troubleshoot issues and maintain data integrity
  • Support HR operations including onboarding, employee relations, policy interpretation, and compliance

Key Responsibilities
Position Summary

The Human Resources Generalist / Payroll Specialist is responsible for supporting day-to-day human resources operations while managing accurate and timely payroll processing. This position serves as a key resource for employees and managers regarding payroll, benefits, HR policies, employee relations, onboarding, and general HR questions.

Payroll Administration
  • Process payroll accurately and on schedule, including regular wages, overtime, bonuses, commissions, deductions, reimbursements, and other compensation.
  • Review employee timekeeping records and payroll data for accuracy prior to processing.
  • Maintain employee payroll information, including new hires, terminations, pay changes, direct deposits, tax elections, deductions, and other payroll-related updates.
  • Research and resolve payroll discrepancies and respond to employee questions regarding pay, deductions, taxes, and related matters.
  • Process garnishments, levies, child support orders, and other required deductions as applicable.
  • Audit payroll reports and employee data to identify discrepancies and ensure accurate processing.
  • Assist with payroll reporting and quarter-end and year-end activities, including tax forms and related documentation.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential payroll records in accordance with company requirements and applicable regulations.
  • Partner with Finance and Accounting regarding payroll funding, reconciliations, reporting, and other payroll-related matters as needed.
  • Work with payroll vendors and HRIS providers to troubleshoot issues and maintain accurate employee information.

Accurate payroll processing, timecard review, deductions, discrepancy resolution, reporting, compliance, and employee inquiries are also reflected in current payroll-specialist guidance and relevant internal role materials.

Human Resources
  • Serve as a primary resource for employees regarding HR policies, payroll, benefits, company procedures, and general employment-related questions.
  • Coordinate the onboarding process for new employees, including new-hire paperwork, employment documentation, system setup, orientation, and benefits information.
  • Support offboarding activities, including termination documentation, system updates, final payroll coordination, and exit-related processes.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee personnel files, HRIS records, payroll information, attendance records, and other HR documentation.
  • Support employee relations activities by addressing routine employee concerns, providing guidance on company policies, and escalating complex matters to HR leadership when appropriate.
  • Assist managers with employee documentation, coaching processes, policy interpretation, and other HR-related matters.
  • Assist with recruiting activities as needed, including job postings, candidate coordination, interview scheduling, offers, pre-employment requirements, and new-hire preparation.
  • Support the administration of employee policies, procedures, and handbook updates.
  • Assist with HR reporting, audits, recordkeeping, and compliance initiatives.
  • Coordinate employee status changes, including promotions, transfers, compensation changes, and terminations.
  • Support employee engagement, retention, training, and other HR initiatives.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality when handling employee, compensation, payroll, medical, and other sensitive information.
Qiualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
