Job description

The HR Generalist provides on-site support to a safety-sensitive, predominantly Spanish-speaking workforce, advising supervisors on employee relations and compliance while escalating risks to the Regional HR Manager. This role will help to establish consistent, scalable branch-level HR processes.

Core Responsibilities
Hiring & Onboarding
  • Provide local support to branch hiring at the direction of the Talent Acquisition Team and the hiring manager — on-site interview logistics, local-hire requirements
  • Coordinate and facilitate weekly orientations for incoming field and office staff in English and Spanish, serving as primary presenter for operational expectations and day-to-day procedures
  • Partner with HR Shared Services onboarding staff, providing the in-person and regional support corporate cannot deliver remotely
  • Evaluate orientation effectiveness against retention and early turnover data; recommend content or delivery changes to the Regional HR Manager
Employee Relations & Supervisor Support
  • Serve as daily HR contact for employees and front-line supervisors at assigned locations
  • Coach front-line supervisors on attendance, performance, and consistent policy application; assess where inconsistent application is creating risk and raise it proactively
  • Gather facts on routine attendance and performance concerns and elevate as necessary to the Regional HR Manager
  • Draft and issue corrective-action documentation for routine, well-supported matters. Consult the Regional HR Manager before issuing corrective action that involves a final written warning or termination recommendation, an employee who has recently engaged in protected activity, or an employee with known medical restrictions or a pending accommodation request
  • Escalate any harassment, discrimination, retaliation, wage-claim, or safety-retaliation allegation to the Regional HR Manager immediately and without independent investigation
Leave, Accommodations & Workers’ Compensation
  • Serve as the branch-level intake point for leave requests (CFRA, FMLA, PDL, paid sick leave, company leaves) and route to the Benefits Department; partner with HR Shared Services and the Regional HR Manager on coordination, communication, and case management
  • Track intermittent and continuous leave usage at assigned locations; coordinate return-to-work logistics with operations
  • Work within process standards and templates set by the Sr. Director of Benefits & Compliance. Eligibility and designation determinations are issued by the Benefits Department; elevate concurrent, intermittent, disputed, or accommodation-implicating cases to the Regional HR Manager
  • Support and coordinate workers' compensation modified duty where available, with the Regional HR Manager and Corporate HR.
  • Recognize when a leave, injury, or performance matter implicates accommodation obligations and elevate to the Regional HR Manager before responding to the employee
Performance, Training & Development
  • Support the rollout and ongoing administration of the performance review cycle at assigned locations as programs are established by HR Shared Services — including supervisor readiness, completion tracking, and follow-through on documented commitments
  • Provide field-level input on program design: assess execution in jobsite-based, Spanish-speaking, multi-shift environment and recommend adjustments to the Regional HR Manager
  • Coordinate delivery and completion of required compliance training in coordination with HR Shared Services and in partnership with the Regional HR Manager; track completion and drive follow-up on outstanding assignments
  • Deliver internal and Regional HR Manager–developed training to field and office staff in English and Spanish
  • Assess supervisor capability gaps and recommend targeted coaching or training
Compliance, Records & Reporting
  • Support Corp HR in maintaining personnel, medical, and I-9 records per EEO, privacy, and retention requirements in Paycom
  • Execute periodic personnel-file and I-9 audits under the direction of HR Shared Services or Regional HR Manager— including employee communication, document collection, and follow-through to closure; report systemic gaps to the Regional HR Manager
  • Track HR-required training completion and HR-owned certifications; assess exposure and drive resolution with the responsible supervisor. Safety training, safety certifications, and jobsite readiness tracking are owned by the Safety/EHSI function.
  • Prepare and interpret branch headcount, turnover, leave, and employee-relations reporting
  • Coordinate with HR Shared Services and branch operations on timely submission of required records within established deadlines
  • Respond to benefits and pay questions; coordinate resolution with Benefits and Payroll department
Transfers & Offboarding
  • Manage transfers and offboarding in conjunction with HR Shared Services, with attention to entity and multi-location requirements
  • Escalate any transfers or terminations between Valcourt entities to the Regional HR Manager before processing, as these may carry separate hire and separation obligations
Branch Administrative Support
  • The following supports branch operations and is expected to represent a limited portion of the role. Administrative and data-entry duties are not to exceed approximately 20% of total working time. The Regional HR Manager will review actual time allocation by task category quarterly, document the result, and rebalance duties as needed.
  • Receive and process PTO/time-off requests for assigned locations; confirm supervisor approval, enter approved absences into the branch operations calendar, and submit to Payroll per established deadlines
  • [PENDING APPROVAL] Support branch operational data entry in Computer Ease as assigned, in coordination with branch operations leadership
Qualifications
Qualifications Required

  • Demonstrated judgment with confidential and sensitive matters
  • Manages competing priorities against statutory deadlines
  • HRIS and Microsoft Office proficiency
  • Valid driver's license and insurable driving record required
