Qualifications

Job Summary

The Human Resources (HR) Generalist serves as a subject matter expert across a broad range of human resources functions, including federal and state employment laws, compensation, recruiting, benefits administration, workers' compensation, performance management, employee engagement, employee relations, and training and development. The HR Generalist is responsible for the day-to-day administration of these functions and works collaboratively with HR team members, providing guidance and mentorship as appropriate.

This role is expected to build and maintain strong, professional relationships throughout the organization based on trust, credibility, mutual respect, and a commitment to supporting employees and organizational success. The HR Generalist serves as a trusted resource to employees and leaders, providing practical guidance, promoting compliance, and helping foster a positive and productive workplace culture.

Responsibilities
  • Under the direction of the Vice President of Human Resources, serves as a subject matter expert and resource to employees and managers on a broad range of human resources matters.
  • Administers and provides day-to-day support for employee benefits, leave of absence programs, and workers' compensation activities.
  • Manages full-cycle recruitment activities for a variety of positions, including partnering with temporary staffing agencies and external recruiting resources as needed.
  • Develops, maintains, and updates job descriptions and assists with compensation analysis and salary structure development.
  • Assists with the development, implementation, communication, and administration of Human Resources policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Assists with the design, development, and delivery of employee and management training programs.
  • Coordinates and supports new hire onboarding activities, including facilitating New Hire Orientation as needed.
  • Assists with employee offboarding processes, including conducting exit interviews and analyzing feedback trends.
  • Supports the organization's performance management program, including administration, coaching, compliance monitoring, and review of performance evaluations.
  • Prepares, maintains, and submits required reports accurately and within established timelines.
  • Provides guidance and practical solutions to employees and managers regarding employee relations, performance management, policy interpretation, and workplace issues.
  • Participates in investigations, gathers relevant information, and assists in resolving workplace concerns in a fair, consistent, and confidential manner.
  • Participates in employee counseling, corrective action, performance improvement, and coaching discussions as appropriate.
  • Maintains accurate and organized electronic and paper personnel records in accordance with regulatory and organizational requirements.
  • Develops and maintains positive working relationships built on trust, credibility, mutual respect, and professionalism.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment, integrity, discretion, confidentiality, and professionalism in all interactions and responsibilities.
  • Maintains current knowledge of employment laws, industry trends, and human resources best practices through ongoing professional development.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to the organization's mission, values, and core competencies.
  • Performs other duties and special projects consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Travels as required to support business operations.
Other Functions
  • Enforces Company policies and safety procedures.
  • Regularly updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining professional networks, and participating in professional organizations.
  • Maintain IPA, Health Plan compliance standards.
Competencies
  • Four (4) to Six (6) + years progressive Human Resources experience required.
  • Four (4) to Six (6) + years progressive experience in the following disciplines required: Human Relations, Benefits Management, Compensation, Workers Compensation, Leaves of Absence, Recruiting, Performance Management, Training and Policy Development.
  • Mid to Advanced understanding of California and Federal Labor laws and the ability to interpret them correctly for the benefit of the organization is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with particular attention to detail are essential and required.
  • Administrator level experience using Paycom or similar HRMS is required.
  • Interest, skill and ability to use new technology and apply process improvement is required.
  • Experience working in a healthcare or medical insurance environment is preferred.
  • Prior experience writing human resources policies is required.
  • Excellent interviewing skills and the ability to make sound recommendations regarding future hires.
  • Excellent active listening and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to solve mid-level problems with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism, confidence, and sincerity while quickly and positively engaging employees and candidates.
  • Ability to develop and present training materials to an audience.
  • Ability to multi-task, exercise excellent time management, and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Demonstrated excellence in project management and organization.
  • Ability to provide and receive constructive job and/or industry related feedback.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately share information on a need-to-know basis.

Education and Licensure
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • BA/BS in Business, Psychology or other related field is required.
  • PHR Preferred
