Job Overview

The Human Resources Generalist (HRG) works on-site and supports the human resources function by aligning with business goals while ensuring compliance with California labor laws and regulations. This position will assist with all HR operations, including recruitment, onboarding, training, employee relations, performance management, benefits administration, and fostering a positive workplace culture. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of California employment laws and demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills. Reports to the Human Resources Director (HRD).

  • Executes the recruiting process using R365 (Applicant Tracking System): posts jobs, sources candidates, screens and selects candidates for advancement, coordinates interviews, and manages candidate experience and follow-up.
  • Sends offer letters and onboarding paperwork and follows up with candidates regarding their first workday and new hire orientation.
  • Participates in facilitating new hire orientation and the onboarding process, guiding new employees in the completion of onboarding paperwork when necessary.
  • Maintains employee files through the R365 Human Resources Information System, including employee records, training tracking, status changes, separations, I-9s, and other legally required documentation in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
  • Manages the HR inbox and responds to employee inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Acts as a liaison to employees by responding to questions, resolving concerns, and developing employee engagement initiatives.
  • Drives awareness and adoption of company-sponsored benefit programs.
  • Collaborates with Operations to align people strategies with business objectives while supporting smooth day-to-day operations.
  • Works with managers to address staffing needs, optimize scheduling, and reduce labor costs without compromising service quality.
  • Works with department heads to establish goals aligned with operational targets and service standards.
  • In partnership with the Human Resources Director (HRD), supports managers with coaching, feedback, and disciplinary actions to address performance concerns promptly and effectively.
  • Supports investigations involving workplace complaints, including harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and employee misconduct, ensuring compliance with applicable state and federal laws, including California's SB 1343 requirements.
  • Conducts and analyzes exit interviews to identify trends and recommend improvements to employee experience and organizational processes.
  • Conducts operational audits of timekeeping, payroll, scheduling, and labor practices to ensure compliance and mitigate operational and legal risks.
  • Ensures compliance with California labor laws, including wage and hour regulations, meal and rest break requirements, leave laws, and worker classification requirements.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws, regulations, company policies, and directives.
  • Partners with the HRD and legal counsel on complex employee relations matters and assists with audits, agency inquiries, and employment-related claims.
  • Collaborates with the HRD, operations partners, and managers to develop comprehensive pre-opening materials, including service manuals, job descriptions, standard operating procedures, and training guides to ensure operational readiness.
  • Assists with the preparation and coordination of training classes, employee meetings, and staff development programs.
  • Supports the Human Resources team by preparing reports, analyzing workforce metrics, and identifying trends to support strategic decision-making.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field
  • 5+ years of relevant administrative experience, preferably in Human Resources or Talent Acquisition
  • Experience in high-volume operations, preferably in the restaurant/hospitality industry
  • In-depth knowledge of California employment laws and regulations (e.g., Cal-OSHA, AB5, CFRA, PAGA
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exemplary organizational skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • R365 experience preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
