Job description

At On The Table Group, we build and operate restaurant brands that are deeply connected to their neighborhoods — places built on genuine hospitality, exceptional food & beverage, and a commitment to being unbeatable for our guests every single day. Our portfolio includes Beer Barrel Pizza & Grill, a family dining institution with 11 locations and 60 years of history across Ohio & Indiana, and Sycamore, an independent restaurant concept in Columbus's historic German Village.

We combine deep operations experience with a multidisciplinary team whose backgrounds span technology, design, the arts, healthcare, manufacturing, events, and retail. That range of perspective shapes everything we do, from how we develop our people and design our systems to how we think about growth. We take a long‑term approach — building value for our teams and developing restaurants that become part of the fabric of the communities they serve.

This is a hands‑on support role: you'll help keep things running smoothly and compliantly day to day, while the HR Manager owns the bigger judgment calls. We're also a growing company, and this role will be an important part of that growth. As we expand and open new restaurants, you'll help support NROs (New Restaurant Openings) and other on‑site HR needs, which will occasionally require flexibility outside of the typical day‑to‑day schedule. We're looking for someone excited to own the everyday details while also jumping in and helping us build for what's next.

We're looking for an HR Generalist to support the HR Manager with the day‑to‑day work of the HR function — paperwork, compliance, benefits, records, and the everyday questions that come up across our locations. You'll report directly to the HR Manager and work closely with Operating Partners and location managers.

  • Full-time, salaried exempt position, $58,000–$65,000 annually
  • Typical schedule is Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
  • Primarily in‑person, with the opportunity for up to 1‑2 remote days per week once established in the role
  • Occasional travel, up to 10‑20%, to restaurant locations throughout OH and IN
  • 401(k) with 4% company match
  • PTO and paid holidays
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Complimentary life insurance policy
  • Short‑term disability
Core ResponsibilitiesCompliance & Safety Support
  • Help the HR Manager maintain compliance with FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO, I-9/E-Verify, and applicable Ohio and Indiana labor laws.
  • Maintain organized, accurate compliance records and assist with routine file audits to ensure required documentation is complete and audit‑ready.
  • Track work permits and hour/scheduling requirements for employees under 18 in accordance with Ohio and Indiana minor labor laws.
  • File and track workers’ compensation claims and maintain OSHA recordkeeping when workplace incidents are reported.
  • Handle unemployment paperwork and responses.
  • Onboarding, Offboarding & Employee RecordsManage new‑hire onboarding and compliance requirements, including I-9/E-Verify and background checks, and follow up on results as needed.
  • Process employee separations, including final paperwork, required documentation, and offboarding checklists.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential personnel files for all locations, including performance and corrective‑action documentation, ensuring files remain complete and audit‑ready.
  • HRIS & Employee DataMaintain accurate employee records within the HRIS, including job codes, pay and accrual data, benefits information, and other employee changes.
  • Identify and correct data issues and help make manager self‑service tools easier to use.
  • Payroll, Benefits & Leave SupportServe as the corporate liaison between restaurant teams and the external payroll administrator for proofing, correcting, and finalizing payroll reports.
  • Assist with payroll processing and maintain accurate time‑and‑attendance records.
  • Audit pay grids by pay group and hand off to Finance for final approval by established deadlines.
  • Play a key role in developing and refining a system that supports the transition to unit‑level payroll ownership.
  • Handle day‑to‑day benefits administration, maintain accurate benefits records within the HRIS, and answer employee questions regarding eligibility and enrollment.
  • Support FMLA and company paid‑leave administration.
  • Employee Relations & Performance SupportServe as a first point of contact for everyday employee questions and concerns.
  • Support the HR Manager with documentation during investigations and corrective actions.
  • Keep the Annual Management Review process on track, including forms, deadlines, and completion by location.
  • Training, SOP & Policy SupportSupport the coordination of HR and compliance‑related training, including scheduling sessions, tracking completion, and maintaining accurate training records.
  • Assist the HR Manager with the development, documentation, and ongoing maintenance of HR SOPs, processes, forms, and policy materials.
  • Support updates to the employee handbook and other HR policies as changes are made, including distribution, employee acknowledgments, and recordkeeping through the HRIS.
  • Help ensure HR policies, procedures, and required documentation are consistently communicated and maintained across locations.
QualificationsRequired
  • 2–5 years of HR Generalist or Coordinator experience, ideally in a multi‑site or hospitality environment.
  • Working knowledge of FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO, and I-9/E-Verify; familiarity with Ohio and Indiana labor law a plus.
  • Comfortable supporting benefits administration and HRIS recordkeeping; experience with a comparable HRIS platform preferred.
  • Clear written communication — able to produce clean documentation and follow policy language accurately.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint).
  • Hospitality, food service, or multi‑unit/remote‑site experience preferred.
  • SHRM-CP certification a plus, not required.
What Success Looks Like in This Role
  • Employee records and HRIS data are accurate and audit‑ready at all times.
  • Workers' compensation and unemployment claims are handled promptly and correctly.
  • The HR Manager can hand you a recurring task and trust it gets done right, without following up.
  • Employees know who to go to with everyday questions and get a helpful answer.
Role ScopeThis is a support role.

You’ll own the recurring, day‑to‑day HR work — not the complex employee relations, legal, or strategic calls, which stay with the HR Manager. The right person is detail‑oriented, reliable, and knows when to just handle something versus when to flag it up.
