Job summary

Novolex in North Vernon, IN is seeking an experienced HR Generalist to support the HR Manager with day-to-day leadership for a facility of 200+ employees. You will partner with plant management to drive people processes and ensure compliance.

You will handle recruitment, onboarding, benefits, safety committee involvement, HRIS administration, and reporting on turnover and attendance. A Bachelor’s degree in HR or 3–5+ years’ experience and strong communication with confidentiality are expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in HR or 3–5+ years of related experience.
  • SHRM Certification preferred.
  • 2–4+ years HR experience, preferably industrial setting.
  • Experience with Kronos, ADP or similar HRIS and ATS.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Team player with ability to build relationships with hourly employees, management, and peers.
  • High degree of professionalism in handling confidential information.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends when required.

Responsibilities

  • Complete personnel change notices.
  • Coordinate recruitment activities: posting positions, screening, interviews, updating job descriptions.
  • Conduct new-hire orientation.

  • Complete employment verification requests.
  • Maintain employee files.
  • Serve on Safety Committee.
  • Assist with employee and labor relations issues.
  • Publish reports on turnover, attendance, headcount, vacation, etc.
  • Report HR and EHS data.
  • Process incoming/outgoing mail.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities:

The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for supporting the Human Resources Manager with day-to-day HR leadership to Plant Management of ~200+ employees at our North Vernon facility.

  • Serves as back-up HR Manager when necessary
  • Processes Unemployment Claims
  • Tracks and maintains attendance records; prepares attendance notification documents
  • Completes Personnel Change Notice forms
  • Coordinates and assists in all recruitment-related activities including, but not limited to; posting/communicating open positions, screening candidates, conducting interviews, updating job descriptions, etc.
  • Conducts new-hire orientation
  • Process background checks and pre-employment requirements
  • Completes employment verification requests
  • Maintains employee personnel files
  • Serves as a member of the Safety Committee
  • Assists with Employee and Labor Relations issues
  • Compiles data and publishes related reports including turnover, absenteeism, head count, vacation, etc.
  • Compiles and reports Human Resources and Environmental, Health and Safety data
  • Processes incoming and outgoing mail

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Human Resources, or a combination of education and 3-5+ years of work-related experience required
  • SHRM Certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 to 4+ years of Human Resources experience, preferably in an industrial setting
  • Experience with Kronos, ADP or similar HRIS and Applicant Tracking Systems
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Team player with ability to build lasting productive business relationships with hourly employees, management, and peers
  • Must possess a high degree of professionalism in handling confidential information
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends when required
  • Strong ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience working with a labor union preferred
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and auditing skills required
  • Critical decision maker with the ability to work independently
  • Bilingual English/Spanish, preferred not required
