Job summary

Joint Meeting of Essex & Union Counties is seeking a Human Resources Generalist to provide expert HR support across employee relations, leave administration, workplace investigations, and compliance. The role partners with supervisors to ensure consistent policy application and a respectful, productive workplace.

The successful candidate will manage worker’s compensation processes, assist with performance management, and help interpret and implement HR policies while maintaining confidentiality

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible Human Resources experience.
  • Experience in employee relations, leave administration, workplace investigations, and HR compliance.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state employment laws, including FMLA, ADA, and applicable leave regulations.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency in MS Office 365 applications.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and support on employee relations matters.
  • Collaborate with the HR Administrator to deliver HR programs and support.
  • Conduct workplace investigations and prepare documentation.
  • Coordinate employee leave administration, including FMLA and state programs.
  • Coordinate workers’ compensation claims and return-to-work activities.
  • Assist with corrective action, performance management, and policy interpretation.
  • Assist with development, interpretation, and administration of HR policies and compliance initiatives.
  • Coordinate employee training and professional development initiatives.
  • Prepare HR reports and maintain confidential records, including regulatory documentation.
  • Partner with managers to address employee relations, performance, and workplace issues.
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee information.
  • Comply with organizational policies and employment regulations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

The Joint Meeting of Essex and Union Counties is a regional wastewater treatment authority committed to environmental stewardship, operational excellence, and public service. We are seeking a motivated Human Resources professional to join our growing team and contribute to a collaborative, service-oriented work environment.

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Chief Administrative & Strategic Officer, the Human Resources Generalist performs professional Human Resources work supporting employee relations, leave administration, workplace investigations, workers' compensation administration, policy implementation, and Human Resources compliance. This position partners with supervisors and employees to ensure the consistent application of Human Resources policies, employment laws, and organizational procedures while promoting a positive, respectful, and productive workplace.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The successful applicant should be able to perform and be thoroughly knowledgeable with all the following functions at a pace and level of performance consistent with the actual job performance requirements.

  • Provide guidance and support on employee relations matters.

  • Coordinate employee training and professional development initiatives.
  • Prepare Human Resources reports, maintain confidential employee records, and assist with regulatory documentation.
  • Partner with supervisors and managers to provide guidance on employee relations, performance management, policy interpretation, and workplace issues.
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee information.
  • Comply with all organizational policies, procedures, and applicable employment regulations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Salary Range: $82,000 - $98,000 annually, based on experience
