Job summary

Marker Construction, a family-owned commercial construction company in Columbus, OH, seeks an experienced HR professional to lead recruiting, employee relations, and program development. The role balances day-to-day HR tasks with strategic initiatives that grow talent and support organizational objectives.

The successful candidate will partner with associates and leaders at all levels, manage confidential information, and drive continuous improvement in HR processes.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of progressive human resources experience across multiple HR disciplines.
  • Working knowledge of employment practices, HR administration, benefits, recruiting, associate relations, and performance management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to build credibility with leaders at all levels.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with HRIS systems (e.g., Rippling, WorkforceGo, Employee Navigator).

Responsibilities

  • Manage the full recruitment lifecycle from sourcing to onboarding.
  • Provide guidance and support to associates and leaders on employee relations and performance.
  • Coordinate benefits, compensation, performance reviews, compliance and development initiatives.
  • Facilitate new hire orientation and onboarding with managers for successful integration.
  • Maintain accurate HR records, reporting and HRIS data; support payroll processes.
  • Lead training, leadership development and workforce planning initiatives.
  • Support engagement, recognition, communication, and culture-building programs.
  • Build relationships with schools and community partners for recruiting and development.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate is confident working with individuals at all levels of the organization, balancing day-to-day HR responsibilities with longer-term initiatives that support talent development and organizational growth.

Core Responsibilities
  • Manage the full recruitment lifecycle, including sourcing, interviewing, candidate selection, offer coordination, and onboarding of new associates.
  • Serve as a trusted HR partner by providing guidance and support to associates and leaders on employee relations, performance management, workplace concerns, and policy interpretation.
  • Coordinate and administer key HR programs, including benefits, compensation, performance reviews, compliance, and associate development initiatives.
  • Facilitate new hire orientation and onboarding activities while partnering with managers to ensure successful integration and engagement of new associates.
  • Maintain accurate HR records, reporting, and HRIS data while supporting payroll-related processes and ensuring confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Coordinate training and development programs, leadership development initiatives, career growth opportunities, and workforce planning efforts.
  • Support associate engagement, recognition, communication, and culture-building programs that enhance the overall associate experience.
  • Build and maintain relationships with schools, workforce organizations, industry groups, and community partners to support recruiting and talent development efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws, regulations, company policies, and HR best practices while identifying and escalating potential risks.
  • Lead and support HR projects, process improvements, and strategic initiatives that strengthen organizational effectiveness and support business objectives.
Key Skills And Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
  • 6+ years of progressive human resources experience with demonstrated experience across multiple HR disciplines.
  • Working knowledge of employment practices, HR administration, benefits, recruiting, associate relations, and performance management.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build credibility and trust with associates and leaders at all levels.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency with HRIS (Rippling and WorkforceGo), Employee Navigator, and Microsoft Office suite.
Preferred Qualifications
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or other HR certification.
  • Experience in construction, manufacturing, professional services, or other operationally focused organizations.
  • Experience supporting both office and field/hourly workforces.
  • Experience with training and workforce development programs.
  • Experience with recruiting and talent pipeline development.
