Full time / Exempt • Chicago, Illinois (Hybrid: 2 days/week on-site, 3 days/week remote)

Position Summary

The Human Resources Generalist will support a wide range of HR functions—including payroll, benefits, recruitment, onboarding, offboarding, corporate communications, training, and record management—while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws and NCSBN policies. Reporting to the Associate Director of Human Resources & Organizational Development, they will manage leave administration, benefit enrollment, policy documentation, and HR project coordination.

Responsibilities
  • Provides comprehensive support to daily HR operations across multiple functions including payroll, recruitment, benefits administration, employee performance reviews, and HR projects.
  • Facilitates technical support between HR and external vendors to resolve escalated inquiries.
  • Assists with Workers’ Compensation and unemployment claim processes.
  • Administers employee leave including FMLA, short‑term disability, bereavement, and parental leave, ensuring regulatory compliance and NCSBN policy adherence.
  • Coordinates between HR, employees, and managers while maintaining accurate leave documentation and benefit information.
  • Generates reports for HR projects, metrics, audits, compliance filings, and internal departmental requests.
  • Provides project coordination support for cyclical projects and vendor implementations.
  • Maintains departmental SOPs and supports HRIS documentation and process optimization.
  • Monitors legal compliance filing needs, gathers data to fulfill reporting requirements; supports year‑end processes including employee tax forms (W‑2 and 1095‑C).
  • Updates employee handbook annually and maintains accurate HR content on the company intranet.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of five years of experience supporting Human Resources operations.
  • Minimum of two years of experience administering employee leaves.
  • Experience using HRIS systems and other relevant software.
  • Experience with project coordination, process improvement, and optimization.
  • Microsoft Excel: Proficiency in advanced reporting functions (VLOOKUP, pivot tables).
  • Microsoft Word: Experience utilizing track changes for project coordination.
  • Fundamental understanding of federal, state, and local employment laws; ability to apply to relevant company policies.
  • Familiarity with full scope of HR, including recruitment, compensation, performance management, and employee relations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with employees, management, and external parties.
  • Highly organized with excellent attention to detail; ability to maintain confidential information.
Compensation and Benefits
