Job summary

Humboldt Park Health in Chicago seeks a Full-Time Human Resources Generalist to partner with managers and employees, guiding recruiting, onboarding, performance management, employee relations, and compliance across the hospital’s teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and professional HR experience.
  • 4–6 years of Human Resources experience, preferably in a healthcare or hospital environment.
  • Strong knowledge of employee relations, leave administration, payroll, benefits, and employment law.
  • Experience working with HRIS and payroll systems is required.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to create reports, analyze workforce data, and develop professional presentations for leadership.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion.

Responsibilities

  • Leads recruiting and onboarding for assigned departments.
  • Creates and updates HR policies to ensure compliance with State and Federal laws.
  • Serves as point person for annual performance reviews, updating and/or creating the performance appraisal.
  • Represents the department of Human Resources during regulatory surveys (DNV, IDPH, TJC, etc.).
  • Partner with department heads to forecast staffing and talent needs.
  • Handle employee relations issues from intake to resolution.
  • Conduct investigations and guide corrective action with sound judgment.
  • Maintain and update job descriptions and compensation alignment.
  • Partner with HRIS/Benefits Analysts on data accuracy and reporting.
  • Support performance management cycles and engagement initiatives.
  • Provides guidance in the investigation and resolution of employee problems, issues and concerns.
  • Develops and conducts management training on harassment and discrimination, employment law, ADA, performance reviews, discipline, terminations, ethics, and personnel policies and regulations.

As a primary community healthcare provider, Humboldt Park Health focuses on treating and curing disease while promoting wellness through health education, prevention, and early intervention. Our 200-bed hospital provides inpatient acute care, emergency services, diagnostic services, and primary care. We also support the community through a full-service professional building, neighborhood clinics, and two mobile health units.

We are currently seeking a Full-Time Human Resources Generalist to join our team! The HR Generalist provides consistent, professional HR guidance to managers and employees, maintains accurate records and reporting, and helps build a stable, accountable workforce that supports both patient care and hospital operations. This position requires strong judgment, communication skills, and the ability to execute quickly in a dynamic environment. This role serves as the strategic, dedicated HR partner for their assigned business unit, owning recruiting, onboarding, and employee relations for their assigned teams. This role manages full-cycle hiring, supports leaders through performance and conduct issues, ensures compliance with policies and labor laws, facilitates training and documentation, and drives engagement and retention strategies across operational and support functions.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Partners with managers at all levels to deliver high quality services or support which enhances productivity and ensures that established guidelines are followed to ensure consistency.
  • Serves as expert matter on HR related topics. Provides guidance to leaders on HR related matters.
  • Creates training and conducts New Leadership orientation to new leaders.
  • Assists in the investigation and resolution of employee problems, issues and concerns along with representing HPH at personnel-related hearings, mediations, and depositions (IHA/IDES, EEOC).
  • Develops and conducts management training on harassment and discrimination, employment law, ADA, performance reviews, discipline, terminations, ethics, and personnel policies and regulations.
  • Proposes and makes recommendations to the policy committee for changes and improvements to the employee policy handbook.
  • Identifies legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions and ensures policies, procedures and reporting are in compliance.
  • Works on special projects as needed, and assists Manager, Human Resources as requested.

  • Performs both essential and non-essential job functions in a safe manner as identified by Humboldt Park Health.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of and models the mission and core values of Humboldt Park Health.
  • Enhances professional growth and development by accessing educational programs, job related literature, in-service meetings, and workshops/seminars.
  • Checks hospital email daily.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
