Job summary

Sterling Healthcare Management's Riverwalk Communities seeks a compassionate Human Resources Director with union experience to guide staffing, compliance, and people development across its Indiana facilities. The role oversees recruitment, onboarding, benefits, and regulatory adherence to support staff, residents, and families.

Ideal candidates hold a degree in HR, have healthcare HR knowledge, strong decision-making and a people-first approach, and are committed to maintaining

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or master's in HR management preferred.
  • Knowledge of nursing facility services and HR needs.
  • Ability to make independent decisions and mature judgments.
  • Healthcare facility experience preferred.
  • Understand workplace dynamics and manage personnel issues.
  • Be personable with staff, residents and families.
  • Compassion, tolerance and understanding for the elderly.
  • Knowledge of JCAHO, OBRA, MDPH, MDPA, Medicare and Medicaid rules.

Responsibilities

  • Direct recruiting and advertising to find personnel.
  • Interview applicants and place in roles based on department needs.
  • Hire qualified personnel including negotiating terms of employment.
  • Complete employment documentation for nurses and support staff.
  • Oversee orientation and onboarding for new hires.
  • Supervise employees and evaluate performance at set milestones.
  • Design and direct incentive programs to drive performance.
  • Coordinate employee benefits programs (health, pension, dental, life).
  • Maintain employee records and ensure regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

  • A bachelors or master’s in human resource management is preferred.
  • Must have working knowledge of nursing facility services and departmental human resource needs.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions and mature judgments.
  • Must be qualified to assume the position by training and/or previous experience, preferably in a health care facility.
  • An understanding of the workplace dynamic and the ability to manage all aspects of personnel issues.
  • Be personable with staff, residents, and families in a professional and cooperative manner.
  • Must have compassion, tolerance, and understanding for the elderly.
  • Knowledge of JCAHO, OBRA, MDPH, MDPA, Medicare and Medicaid rules and regulations
Essential Functions

  • Direct advertising in local media to find appropriate personnel for open positions.
  • Interview advertising responders and general applicants for specific job positions.

  • Hire qualified personnel for specific job positions including negotiating contract and terms of employment.
  • Complete all employment documentation for registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, certified nurses’ assistants, and support aides including:

  • Manage orientation of all new employees including:
  • Introduce to department heads at morning admissions meeting.
  • Take new hires on tour of the building and identify key personnel, specialized units, exits, building systems, and emergency procedures.
  • Conduct unit-specific instruction and in-servicing which include appropriate policies and procedures, treatments, and individualized resident approaches.
  • Coordinate work experience rotation on each floor or specialized units.
  • Address all questions and inquiries in the areas of employment, salary, benefits, general facility policies and procedures, and job requirements.
  • Supervise new employees during their initial period of employment to determine optimum placement and promote job satisfaction.
  • Evaluate employees after thirty days, the end of the probationary period, and annually in conjunction with the relevant department heads and the Director of Nursing.
  • Design and direct department-specific and general incentive programs to encourage the optimum job performance of all employees.
  • Coordinate and supervise employee benefit programs including, but not limited to pension plan, health insurance, dental insurance, and life insurance.
  • Maintain all employee files with up-to-date documentation, evaluations, etc. in accordance with current federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Attend admissions, marketing, Performance/Quality Improvement, Medicare meetings, and others as deemed appropriate.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of any changes in JCAHO, Federal, State, Medicare, and Medicaid regulations, modify department policies to assure compliance, and in-service all relevant personnel accordingly.
  • Work as the weekend supervisor as part of the department head monthly rotation.
  • Furnish information regarding residents only to authorized agencies or people.
  • Follow established fire, disaster, and evacuation policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as directed.
