Job summary

Balt Group is seeking a Director of Human Resources to lead the US HR function, reporting to the Vice President, Global Human Resources. This role owns HR strategy and delivery for the US, leads a team of HR generalists, and serves as the senior HR partner to US leaders across corporate, commercial, and manufacturing operations.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive HR experience, including 3+ years leading an HR team with full functional ownership.
  • Senior HR leadership experience advising executives and owning outcomes for a site/region/country.
  • Deep knowledge of California employment law and multi-state US compliance.
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced certification (SPHR/SHRM-SCP) a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Own US HR agenda: workforce planning, organizational design, talent, employee relations, and HR operations.
  • Lead and develop a team of HR generalists; build trust with business leaders.
  • Advise senior US site and functional leadership (manufacturing and commercial).
  • Translate global HR programs into effective US execution: performance management, talent reviews, succession planning.
  • Own US talent acquisition for professional and leadership roles.
  • Handle complex employee relations investigations through resolution.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and California employment laws, wage/hour, and pay transparency.
  • Administer US compensation within the global framework (merit, bonus, promotions).
  • Drive action planning from employee engagement surveys with site leadership.
  • Oversee US benefits programs, open enrollment, 401(k) administration and COBRA coordination.
  • Oversee US payroll and HRIS data integrity.
  • Maintain US HR policies and the employee handbook updates.

About this opportunity – Director, Human Resources

Description: The Director, Human Resources leads the US HR function for Balt, reporting to the Vice President, Global Human Resources. This role owns HR strategy and delivery for the US organization, leads a team of HR generalists, and serves as the senior HR partner to US business leaders across corporate, commercial, and manufacturing operations. This role operates with substantial autonomy, escalating by exception, and combines hands-on credibility in a regulated manufacturing environment with the judgment and presence to advise senior leaders and develop their team.


Job Responsibilities:


  • Own the US HR agenda, including workforce planning, organizational design, talent, employee relations, and HR operations for the US employee population.

  • Lead, develop, and hold accountable a team of HR generalists, building a function that business leaders trust and rely on.

  • Serve as the senior HR advisor to US site and functional leadership, including manufacturing and commercial organizations.

  • Translate global HR programs into effective US execution, including continuous performance management, talent reviews, and succession planning.

  • Own US talent acquisition outcomes for professional and leadership roles, partnering with hiring managers on selection quality and candidate experience.

  • Own complex employee relations matters, investigations, and performance cases through to resolution, with sound documentation and risk judgment.

  • Ensure compliance with federal and California employment law, including wage and hour, leaves of absence, and pay transparency requirements.

  • Administer US compensation processes within the global framework, including merit, bonus, promotion, and off-cycle review cycles.

  • Lead US action planning from employee engagement survey results, in partnership with site leadership.

  • Oversee US benefits programs end to end, including plan renewals, open enrollment, 401(k) administration and required filings, and COBRA compliance, in partnership with brokers and vendors.

  • Oversee US payroll, which sits within the HR function, ensuring accurate and compliant processing, sound controls and effective coordination with Finance on reporting and reconciliation.

  • Own US HR operations, including HRIS data integrity, employee records, onboarding and offboarding processes, and training compliance documentation.

  • Own US HR policies and the employee handbook, keeping them current with federal, state, and local requirements.


Qualification Requirements:


  • 10+ years of progressive HR experience, including at least 3 years leading an HR team with full functional ownership.

  • Demonstrated success operating as the senior HR leader for a site, region, or country, advising executives and owning outcomes.

  • Deep working knowledge of California employment law and multi-state US compliance.

  • Bachelor's degree required; SPHR, SHRM-SCP, or advanced degree a plus.


Skills:


  • Executive presence and the ability to advise and influence senior leaders.

  • Team leadership and coaching skills that build capability and accountability.

  • Strong employee relations judgment, including investigations and complex case management.

  • Clear, audience-appropriate communication across professional and manufacturing populations.

  • Proficiency in HRIS platforms and the Microsoft Office Suite.


Pre-requisites / Job Experience:


  • Experience in medical device, life sciences, or another regulated manufacturing environment strongly preferred.

  • Experience supporting both professional and hourly manufacturing populations.

  • Experience in a private equity-backed or high-growth environment is an advantage.


Physical Requirements:


  • Extended periods of sitting or speaking.

  • Light lifting.

  • Heavy computer use.

  • Must adhere to the company's safety practices by performing work safely and in accordance with established standards.
