Under the general direction of the Director of Academic and Staff Human Resources, responsible for the administration of staff personnel matters within the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing, and in collaboration with campus HR. Provides independent analytical support pertaining to all staff personnel matters for all human resources issues in the School. Analyzes large quantities of information, provides policy interpretation and recommends solutions in resolving sensitive personnel issues.

Under the general direction of the Director of Academic and Staff Human Resources, develops and manages school HR Programs such as SON Welcome Experience, Rewards and Recognition, Professional development, and other programs in alignment and in support of the school's strategic priorities. #CA-DS

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Advanced experience and training in Human Resources management
  • Experience applying the principles and practices of human resource management, staff personnel processes and organizational development in a complex organization.
  • Experience providing professional advice and guidance on Human Resources best practices to all levels in an organization.
  • Experience interpreting and applying university policies, procedures and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Experience developing and managing HR programs.
  • Experience or ability to learn supervision of Human Resources professional staff.
  • Political acumen and collegial communication skills to Interact with faculty, staff, students, the public and persons at all levels with varying backgrounds, levels of expertise, interest and personal investment in the activities of the School of Nursing.
  • Ability to learn new information, synthesize information from a variety of sources and make recommendations for a plan of action.
  • Advanced experience and knowledge in human resources practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of state and federal labor and employment laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, developing, managing and executing short and long term goals/plans.
  • Demonstrated experience in recruiting, selecting, training and employee retention.
  • Ability to work independently and also in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated experience partnering and providing consultation to leadership, employees, and HR Partners or HR related Issues
  • Initiative to follow-up on projects and to be proactive.
  • Experience in effective writing, translating and implementing policies.
  • Advanced experience in computer skills including experience with Microsoft Suite.
  • Strong presentation and training skills.
  • Exceptional analytical, administrative and Interpersonal problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • SHRM Certification (PHR or SPHR)
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in HR Management or related area
  • Advanced experience and knowledge of state and federal labor and employment laws and regulations, and UC policies, procedures and contracts.
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Experience in coaching managers and staff in professional and leadership development.
  • Ability to train, mentor new administrative staff with regard to staff personnel process.
  • Knowledge of payroll/personnel system, including on-line systems.
  • Advanced persuasion, listening and conflict management skills.
  • Familiarity and knowledge of bargaining units.
  • An understanding and appreciation for organizational and interpersonal dynamics with the ability to perceive conflict in business settings and the skill to develop proactive strategies.

Work Environment
