Job summary

Prince George’s County Government is seeking an entry-level paraprofessional to support the Police Personnel Division by handling routine HR inquiries via in person, phone, or electronic communication. The role operates under supervision to ensure accuracy and adherence to procedures.

The incumbent will assist with hiring processes, PPAs, employee ID card services, separations, and file maintenance, with a focus on quality and timely task outcomes.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required; 30 college credits toward an Associate degree with coursework in HR/Personnel Management, Organizational Development, Business/Public Administration, or Psychology.
  • Equivalent combinations of relevant training, education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience with MS Office applications and HRIS/ATS systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with hiring processes to fill sworn and civilian positions.
  • Assist with processing Past Performance Appraisals (PPAs) and incentive award documents.
  • Provide ID cards and replacement ID cards to employees/retirees of the Police Department.
  • Assist in separation/clearance processing of employees.
  • Maintain Police Personnel Division working files and prepare HR documentation.

About the Position

This is a dually allocated entry level paraprofessional position. The incumbent in this class of work performs routine day-to-day human resources operations by communicating and responding to non-technical human resources inquiries from employees and various outside entities in person, over the phone or via electronic communication. The incumbent will be responsible for providing support to the Police Personnel Division. Work is performed under the close supervision of a higher-level human resources analyst or supervisor and is reviewed for accuracy, timeliness, and conformance with established guidelines and procedures. The incumbent in this position is authorized to carry out those duties and responsibilities in accordance with the established performance standards and is subject to reporting and justifying task outcomes to those above him/her in the department’s chain of command.

  • Assists with the hiring processes to fill sworn and civilian positions.
  • Assists with the processing of Past Performance Appraisals (PPAs) and employee incentive award documents.
  • Provides ID cards and replacement ID cards to Employees/retirees of the Police Department.
  • Assists in the separation/clearance processing of employees.
  • Establishes and maintains Police Personnel Division's working files.
  • Assists with preparing Request to Hire (RTH)/ePRB packages for sworn and civilian positions.
  • Receives visitors and answers telephone calls for the Police Personnel Division.
  • Disseminates Personal Information Documents (PID's).
  • Types, proofreads, edits, and prepares for distribution correspondence, reports, labels, and standard forms on computer.
  • Assists with updating employee information within the automated personnel/payroll system.
  • Maintains the reception area and stocks paper supplies.
Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must meet all minimum qualifications listed below to be eligible for additional consideration:

  • High School diploma or G.E.D.
  • 30 semester credit hours from an accredited college or university towards an Associate's degree with coursework in Human Resources/Personnel Management, Organizational Development, Business/Public Administration, Psychology,

Any equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience may also be considered.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience and knowledge utilizing the Microsoft Office software including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Experience utilizing Human Resources Information Systems/applicant tracking systems (e.g., NEOGOV, SAP, etc.)

Conditions of Employment:

Upon selection, the candidate must (where applicable):

  • Be willing to work Monday through Friday, 9:00am – 4:00 pm.
  • Be willing to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as operations necessitate.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Meet all training and performance standards and demonstrate proficiency as required by the agency.
  • Wear and use agency protective apparel and equipment in the performance of their assigned duties.
  • Successfully pass preemployment checks which may include reference checks, background investigations, and drug screenings.
  • Be willing and able to serve as an essential employee. Essential employees are expected to report during standard or non-standard hours as operations necessitate, or during emergencies. Essential employees are expected to report or remain at work when other County employees are granted Administrative Leave.
