Human Resource Specialist - Distribution Center - 2nd Shift (Hartford, CT)

The HR Specialist supports the HR Manager and HR Generalists within a Distribution Center (DC). Responsibilities include providing customer service to DC Team Members in areas such as payroll, time and attendance, benefits, safety, workers’ compensation, leaves, company policies, local DC policies, and training. The role involves HR coordination and administration activities including data entry, maintenance of personnel/medical files, and OSHA log management.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality customer service to Team Members and leaders, handling difficult conversations and communicating effectively with internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure accurate entry and processing of all Team Members in the Kronos time-keeping system.
  • Manage payroll duties, ensuring timely and accurate processing of increases.
  • Maintain Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) with all personnel transactions.
  • Apply attendance policies by entering data and communicating as needed.
  • Assist the HR Generalist with onboarding, benefits reviews, Open Enrollment, and vendor interactions.
  • Support communication efforts by updating bulletin boards and posting information for Team Members.
  • Serve as liaison to Headquarters on HR-related matters and collaborate with Centers of Expertise.
  • Coordinate outreach, schedule interviews, check references, and support Talent Acquisition activities.
  • Handle workers’ compensation processing, including claim submission, data entry, and communication with carriers.
  • Manage FMLA and Leave of Absence documentation, tracking, and communication.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in HR or related field OR High School Diploma/GED with at least 3 years of HR experience in employee relations, staffing & selection, compensation & benefits, or training.
  • Knowledge of payroll systems and processes.
  • Understanding of federal, state, labor, and employment laws, including Workers’ Compensation, FMLA, ADA, and OSHA.
  • Experience with HRIS systems.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Keyboarding skills of at least 30 WPM, touch typing, and familiarity with 10-key numeric pad.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of experience with Kronos timekeeping, workers’ compensation, and HRIS.
