This role combines Payroll Specialist responsibilities with Human Resource Generalist support for a Cadillac, Michigan worksite. The position acts as the local payroll systems expert, while also providing HR administration coverage to support managers and employees.
Role Overview
Payroll Duties: Serve as the site expert for payroll processing and payroll systems.
HR Admin/Generalist: Provide HR administration support focused on leadership, consistency, and day-to-day assistance for management across the organization.
Status: Salary, Non-Exempt. Reports to the Human Resources Manager. Full-time, onsite in person.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with the management team to plan, schedule, and participate in new hire orientation, including processing paperwork for benefits, payroll, other employee programs, and training.
- Maintain accurate personnel records and ensure compliance with federal and state laws; prepare timely monthly reports for the USA and Italy.
- Process monthly billings for insurance, 401(k), and other HR-related benefits and purchases.
- Interpret health benefit details, enroll associates, assist associates with understanding plan provisions, help ensure claim payment, and process required forms and documentation.
- Run weekly and bi-weekly payroll for all associates, and prepare management reports and records including time and attendance, payroll hours, and overtime reports.
- Identify and evaluate system, procedure, or safety problems and needs, then recommend corrective actions.
- Stay current on human resources trends and legal issues, advising management on actual or potential company impact.
- Respond to associate questions, concerns, and complaints according to company policies; elevate serious issues to management so action can be taken promptly; interact effectively across all organization levels.
- Ensure fair and consistent interpretation and application of corporate policies and practices for all associates.
- Support recruiting needs by helping plan, schedule, and participate in interviews; conduct reference checks; schedule medical, blood draw, and drug screening appointments.
- Assist in identifying training needs and support internal and external training programs to meet those needs.
- Advise management on compensation and benefits costs and trends to help ensure competitiveness in the marketplace.
- Annually review information for Form 5500 for the company 401(k) plan.
- Actively participate in the health and safety committee; respond to and investigate injuries or illness, coordinate necessary treatment, determine work relationship, process insurance claims timely, maintain the OSHA log, participate in return-to-work treatment plans, and cooperate with legal counsel on litigated worker’s compensation claims.
- Plan, schedule, and greet associates at company or community functions.
- Participate in community associations related to business needs or associate education.
- Attend required meetings to review plans, results, problems, and special activities.
- Maintain a clean, well-ordered HR workspace and model compliance with safety rules and practices.
Requirements
- Three or more years of experience as a specialist in payroll administration and/or human resource administration.
- Ability to maintain concentrated mental and visual attention to perform complex work with high accuracy and quality for sustained periods.
- Use of judgment to plan, perform, and make decisions on the sequence of setups, operations, and processes within standard methods and procedures.
- Ability to interpret instructions provided in written, oral, or scheduled form.
- Physical demands include standing or walking 2-3 hours, sitting 6-7 hours, periodic lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, pushing, and pulling, and frequent use of arms to fingers for inspecting documents, assisting, writing, typing reports, and entering data.
- Common intelligence, courtesy, and a cooperative spirit to respond to internal and external requests, interact with associates at various levels, motivate and train associates, and clearly present information.
- Must wear safety glasses and booties over shoes.
