JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Center for Language Science (CLS) in the College of the Liberal Arts at Penn State seeks a Human Research Technologist to assist in the operations and research of the labs within CLS.

The CLS is an interdisciplinary group of linguists, psycholinguists, applied linguists, speech-language pathologists, speech scientists, and cognitive neuroscientists who share an interest in language acquisition and bilingualism. CLS researchers employ a variety of methods including behavioral measures, eye tracking, electrophysiological methods (EEG/ERP), and fMRI.

One of the main responsibilities of the Human Research Technologist will be to assist with CLS faculty research. This will involve (but is not limited to) recruiting and testing participants using the above methods, as well as data processing and analysis.

Other Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing the laboratory operations (including oversight of equipment maintenance and research supplies, and participant scheduling)
  • Providing technical support for students and faculty
  • Providing outreach support for the CLS, including promotion and knowledge sharing of ongoing research and studies in the lab
  • Recruiting and training undergraduate research assistants

The Human Research Technologist will also be allotted time for professional development activities.

Education and Experience:
This position will be filled as a Human Research Technologist - Social Sciences - Professional, which requires a minimum of an Associate degree; previous relevant work experience will be accepted in lieu of education.

Candidates should have excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, as well as the ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects.

Training and experience with at least one technical research method for gathering or analyzing data (e.g., eye tracking, EEG/ERP, acoustic analysis in Praat) is required, and knowledge of statistics is also desirable. Additional training will be provided for technical methods and for conducting research with human participants.

This is a limited-term appointment, funded for one year from date of hire, with possibility for renewal.

$31,600.00 - $45,800.00
