The TCC Nursing program offers the Associates in Nursing Direct Transfer Agreement/Major Ready Program Degree, with two tracks: the traditional 2-year RN program and the 1-year LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) to RN (Registered Nurse) program. We love our students and seek a new member of our team to play an essential role in preparing the nurses of tomorrow. Our Sim center is in the Harned Building, which is a 69,700 square foot state of the art building that supports healthcare programs at TCC. The building features several study areas, two healing gardens, geothermal wells and is considered the best Wi-Fi wired building on campus.

Position Summary

The Human Patient Simulation Technician -Instruction & Classroom Support Technician 3 (ICST 3) position participates in the design, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing simulation curriculum. The Simulation Technician will support the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) Program by ensuring the effective operation of the nursing simulation lab, adhering to the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) standards. This position involves the setup, maintenance, and operation of simulation equipment and software to create an immersive learning environment that enhances student learning and success. This position involves a large amount of student contact in the lab assisting students to meet course learning outcomes and works closely with staff and faculty in nursing and other health programs to provide technical support in human patient simulation. The position reports to the Associate Dean of Nursing.

Essential Functions

• Assist in the preparation and execution of simulation-based learning experiences.
• Operate and troubleshoot simulation equipment, manikins, audiovisual systems, and computer software.
• Conduct routine maintenance and repair of simulation lab equipment.
• Collaborate with faculty, staff, and the Simulation Lab Coordinator to implement simulation scenarios that align with course objectives.
• Program simulation scenarios and configure equipment settings according to learning objectives.
• Support pre-briefing and debriefing sessions by managing audiovisual recordings and playback systems.
• Maintain an accurate inventory of lab supplies, equipment, and consumables.
• Ensure timely procurement and organization of required materials.
• Utilize barcoding or inventory management systems as needed.
• Provide training and technical assistance to faculty and staff on simulation technology and best practices.
• Stay current on emerging technologies and trends in simulation education.
• Ensure the simulation lab adheres to health, safety, and infection control standards.
• Participate in ongoing evaluation and quality improvement initiatives in compliance with INACSL standards.
• Serve as a simulator operator running pre-programmed scenarios
• Set up all equipment for daily training and course programs
• Conduct ongoing maintenance of all simulation equipment, including cleaning and repairing equipment
• Maintain all equipment in good working order by troubleshooting both hardware and software systems and network
• Interface with equipment manufacturers regarding equipment troubleshooting and system problems
• Actualize common healthcare procedures and principles as they apply to simulated medical experiences
• Support/Assist in role playing applications, prop placement and moulage set up
• Implement high fidelity simulation activities that meet the standards of realism, reliability, validity, feasibility, and risk management
• Work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and community partners to provide simulated training experiences, to include creation, implementation and evaluation of the scenarios used in simulation
• Provide recommendation for budget and purchase of equipment, supplies and materials
• Prepare invoices for supply and equipment purchasing
• Maintain records of preventative maintenance and repairs
• Maintain current knowledge of best practices in simulation equipment and in industry updates, by participation in technical training, and attending conferences/seminars
• Identify opportunities for technological improvements in TCC health care education
• Apply health and safety regulations as mandated by Occupational Safety and Health Administration, including appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for the situation, emergency equipment, storage of chemicals, and maintenance of equipment
• Participate in activities of the faculty team, attend faculty and division meetings, and serve on departmental committees as elected or appointed
• Participate in development and evaluation of policies and standards for the use of the labs and equipment for faculty and student participants
• Manage vendors and various sales representatives related to all simulation activities
• Participate in area simulation user groups and attend industry events as a representative of Tacoma Community College
• Educate area administrators, technicians, and faculty members on using/implementing Human Patient Simulation.
• Remain accessible to faculty/staff for questions, support etc.
• Assist with special projects or initiatives as needed
• Provide backup support for the Lab Coordinator role
• Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate degree from an accredited college or univeristy in computer science, technology, medical simulation or relavent.
• Four years of experience providing academic support to students or similar experience.

-OR- equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

• Working knowledge of multiple types of operating systems, audio-visual equipment, and wireless technology.
• Ability to use and operate different simulator technology

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with simulation technology, medical equipment, or IT systems.
• Working knowledge of medical terminology
• Certification as a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) or equivalent.
• Prior experience in nursing or healthcare simulation.
• Familiarity with INACSL standards and best practices.
• Experience with scheduling software and inventory management tools.

Conditions of Employment

• Successful completion of a criminal history background check prior to employment
• Must be able to independently move equipment up to 50lbs & move equipment more than 50lbs with the assistance of others
• Must have the ability to sit, stand, and walk for prolonged and considerable amounts of time
• Must be able to occasionally reach, stoop, bend, kneel and crouch while performing duties of position
• Able to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends and evenings, in order to complete tasks on deadline

This is a full-time classified position scheduled to work Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm. Flexibility in scheduling is required to meet the needs of the department which may include some evenings and weekend hours. The salary range is $4,093 to $5,501 per month. The summer schedule may vary to four 10-hour days. Office location is Building 13 on the TCC main campus.
