JOB DESCRIPTION

Opportunity at a Glance

We are interested in developing long-term relationships with superior instructors who have high professional standards, excellent communication skills, enthusiasm and a commitment to providing the finest practitioner-focused education. We are seeking primarily Industry Professionals to share their knowledge and experience with undergraduate students in a variety of fields. Commitment is on a course-by-course basis.

Human Biology with Lab (BIOS150)

In this introductory course students study the biological principles governing the normal state of the human body with an emphasis on the structure and function of major organ systems. Through virtual labs, case studies, discussions, and other learning activities, students explore core concepts in biochemistry, biology, genetics, anatomy and physiology to gain an understanding of how human body systems normally work together to maintain homeostasis and respond to disease. The course will also cover topics such as human development, fluid dynamics, reproduction, nutrition, and the body's defenses against illness.

Topics Include

  • Demonstrate how anatomical root words give rise to anatomical and medical terminology.
  • Describe the basic structure and function of human cells including cell transportation and cell division.
  • Explain the roles of the four common biological macromolecules.
  • Explain the basic structure, function and organization of tissues within the organ systems in the normal state.
  • Recall how various factors including nutrition, environment, and exercise influence the state of the human body.
  • Describe common disease states and disorders and their effects on normal function.
  • Describe the process of reproduction including the flow of genetic information and basic genetic calculations.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and provides students with an approved Adtalem Global Education/Chamberlain University syllabus that follows an established template, which includes the terminal course objectives.
  • Organizes, prepares, and regularly revises and update all course materials.
  • Conduct the course using our student focused coaching model, focused on proactive outreach using phone, email communication, and use of other communication technologies
  • Uses appropriate technological options for online technologies and course-related software, including Websites, e-mail, and online discussions for preparing the course and making it accessible to students.
  • Models effective oral and written communications that engage the students, provide clarity, and improve student learning.
  • Sets clear expectations for the course by publishing course terminal objectives, assignment/examinations dates, and weight the distribution of various evaluation categories.
  • Ensures that the content and level of material included on exams correspond to the course terminal objectives.
  • Demonstrates consistency and fairness in the preparation and grading of exams and provide timely feedback to students.
  • Performs/Completes other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree is required for all faculty positions (with 18 graduate hours in the subject being taught for undergraduate teaching - Human Biology, Biology, Anatomy & Physiology or Microbiology). Required
  • Ability to provide unofficial and official transcripts for all earned degrees from a regionally accredited institution. (or a NACES approved US course-by-course equivalency evaluation for degrees earned and conferred outside of the US) Required
  • A minimum of 1-year online teaching experience. Preferred
  • Ability to recognize signs of disengagement or academic struggle and intervene early
  • Passion for student success and care for students
  • Faculty must have requisite subject matter expertise and outstanding communication skills.
  • Faculty must also have excellent motivational and instructional skills in a diverse and non-traditional environment.
  • Must be able to work in a collegial manner and facilitate the efforts of diverse groups.
  • Additional requirements driven by state licensing or accreditation considerations may apply. Required

Additional Information

Chamberlain Visiting Professor Position - Online:

In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected compensation rate for this position is between $715/Earned Credit Hour to $1,950/Earned Credit Hour, depending on the candidate’s education and experience.

Actual pay may be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as type of course taught; experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
