Job summary

Mission Technologies, a division of HII, is seeking an experienced technician in Norfolk, VA to support the COMNAVAIRPAC Carrier Engineering Maintenance Assist Team. Responsibilities include assessing, troubleshooting, and repairing watertight closures and AFFF systems. Required qualifications include a high school education or trade school equivalent and at least 6 years of related experience. Requisition Number: 28476. Required Travel: 11 - 25%. Employment Type: Full Time/Hourly/Non-Exempt. Anticipated Salary Range: $52,780.00 - $67,600.00. Security Clearance: Ability to Obtain. Level of Experience: Mid.

Summary

This position is for an experienced technician for the COMNAVAIRPAC Carrier Engineering Maintenance Assist Team (CEMAT). The experienced technician will perform assessments, troubleshooting, and repairs on watertight and non-tight closures, Aqueous Film-Forming Foam (AFFF) systems, and valve overhaul and repair in Norfolk, VA.

What You Will Do
  • Master understanding of production and processes. Responsible for interfacing with customers, managing subcontractors and providing work direction to others.
  • Perform assessments, troubleshooting, and repairs on watertight and non-tight closures, AFFF systems, and valve overhaul and repair.
  • May provide direction and lead others, manage multiple jobs, and train sailors.
  • Possess complete comprehension of specialty trades functions and tools, performing a variety of complicated and non-routine tasks.
  • Develop and use technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports, and task or trip reports. Schedule, report, and brief customers and senior management. May perform quality inspections on finished product.
  • Perform duties outside of specialty to complete installation or work assignment.
What You Must Have
  • High School education, or Trade School, or equivalent, and 6 years of related experience.
  • Experience performing inspection, evaluation, repair, and training of watertight and airtight accesses.
  • Experience removing, inspecting, and training sailors concerning armored watertight doors, hatches, scuttles, and installed firefighting systems, including AFFF.
  • Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
  • Must be able to travel up to 25% when not assigned to local tasks.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Confidential Security Clearance.
Bonus Points For
  • Prefer technical/professional certifications.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Current or previous experience in pump repair and blueprint reading.
  • A current, active DoD Confidential Security Clearance or higher.
  • At least 6 - 8 years of previous US Navy or US Coast Guard related position experience.
  • Current or previous experience with classroom instructing.
Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
