Job summary

Ridgeview Medical Center in Minnesota is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator to assist staff in coordinating intra- and inter-departmental activities and patient care under RN supervision.

You will handle physician orders, admissions/discharges, scheduling, and supply restocking while maintaining professional service to patients and staff.

Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for assisting staff in the coordination of intra-and inter-departmental activities and communication. Assists with patient-related activities under the supervision of the RN.

Job Functions

1. Facilitates physician orders.
2. Communicates pertinent information regarding unit/department activities to appropriate staff.
3. Processes admission, transfers, discharges and schedules appointments.
4. Restocks and orders supplies for unit/area.
5. Completes assigned clerical responsibilities.
6. Performs support functions for management staff as required.
7. Maintains the flow of the department by coordinating care of the patient between other departments.
8. Demonstrates competencies in the specialty area of Emergency.
9. Provides professional and courteous customer service to internal and external customers.
10. Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Education/Work Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

• Ability to meet and maintain the necessary background checks as aligned with position functions
• Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above
• Strong communication and listening skills
• Knowledge of basic computer functions
• Ability to respond appropriately to unpredictable situations and diverse patient populations
• Ability to work autonomously and as a team
• Capable of making independent decisions with the use of good critical thinking and problem solving skills

License/Certifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross within 30 days from hire

Preferred Qualifications

• Completion of Health Unit Coordinator course
• Previous HUC experience
• Experience in hospital setting
• Knowledge of medical terminology
