Job summary

Food Connection in Asheville, NC is seeking a Hub Manager to oversee the daily operations of our Hub and Mobile Meals Program. You will lead on-site staff, coordinate food rescue, inventory, and distribution, and ensure a safe, efficient facility that supports program growth.

As a hub leader, you will manage staffing, training, and data collection, collaborate with the Program Director and volunteers, and champion food safety, sustainability, and community impact.

Qualifications

  • Experience in operations management, logistics, or related fields.
  • Experience supervising staff or volunteers preferred.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple workflows in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with inventory or facility management systems is a plus.
  • Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs and reliably transport as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, schedule, train, and support Mobile Meals and Food Waste Warrior staff.
  • Coordinate food rescue intake, storage, meal packing, and distribution staging.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, safe, and efficient facility.
  • Identify workflow challenges and implement systems that improve efficiency and support program growth.
  • Oversee intake, storage, rotation, and movement of rescued food.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and internal procedures.
  • Manage operational supplies, packaging materials, equipment, refrigerators, and freezers.
  • Collaborate with the Program Director, Logistics Coordinator, Mobile Meals Lead, and Volunteer Coordinator.
  • Provide on-site leadership and guidance to staff and volunteers.
  • Support accurate food rescue, inventory, and operational data collection.
  • Oversee composting, recycling, and food diversion efforts.

Hub Manager

Food Connection is seeking a Hub Manager to oversee the daily operations of our Food Connection Hub and Mobile Meals Program. Reporting to the Program Director, this role leads on-site staff and ensures our facility operates safely, efficiently, and effectively as a central location for food rescue, storage, meal packing, and distribution.

Food Connection is a nonprofit organization based in Asheville, North Carolina, dedicated to easing food insecurity and reducing food waste by rescuing surplus chef-prepared food and redistributing it directly to individuals and communities in need. Responsibilities
Hub Operations & Team Leadership
  • Lead daily operations of the Food Connection Hub and Mobile Meals Program.
  • Supervise, schedule, train, and support Mobile Meals and Food Waste Warrior staff.
  • Coordinate food rescue intake, storage, meal packing, and distribution staging.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, safe, and efficient facility.
  • Identify workflow challenges and implement systems that improve efficiency and support program growth.
Food Safety & Inventory
  • Oversee the intake, storage, rotation, and movement of rescued food.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, health codes, sanitation standards, and internal procedures.
  • Manage operational supplies, packaging materials, equipment, refrigerators, freezers, and other facility infrastructure.
  • Maintain systems for tracking food, inventory, equipment maintenance, and facility needs.
Program & Volunteer Coordination
  • Collaborate with the Program Director, Logistics Coordinator, Mobile Meals Lead, and Volunteer Coordinator to ensure smooth daily operations.
  • Ensure adequate staff and volunteer coverage for Hub activities.
  • Provide on-site leadership and guidance to staff and volunteers.
  • Support accurate food rescue, inventory, and operational data collection.
Sustainability
  • Oversee Food Connection's composting, aluminum recycling, and food diversion efforts.
  • Coordinate with farm and compost partners to keep food that is no longer safe for human consumption out of the landfill.
  • Support Food Connection's commitment to reducing food waste and improving environmental sustainability.
Qualifications
  • Experience in operations management, logistics, warehouse coordination, food service, or a related field.
  • Experience supervising staff and/or volunteers preferred.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple workflows and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with inventory or facility management systems is a plus.
  • Ability to work in a physically active environment and regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Passion for reducing food waste and addressing hunger in our community.

  • Previous experience managing a diverse team
  • Knowledge in: Comfortable navigating a computer and mobile devices
  • Knowledge in: Ability to effectively utilize Microsoft, Google Suite, or similar systems
