Relyans Max. is seeking an Heat Treat Operator – Level One to run and support heat treatment processes with a focus on safety and accuracy.

Responsibilities

Heat Treat Operator – Level 1

Reports to: Production Supervisor, Heat Treat Department: Manufacturing

JOB SUMMARY:

The Heat Treat Operator – Level One is responsible for operating and supporting heat treatment processes with a focus on safety, efficiency, and accuracy. This role involves the movement of materials using forklifts and other equipment, loading and unloading systems, managing inventory in SAP, pulling and staging stock, and maintaining accurate documentation. The operator will follow defined procedures to meet customer and internal specifications while supporting continuous improvement and smooth shift transitions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Material Handling & Forklift Operation
  • Operate forklifts and pallet jacks to transport raw materials, in-process parts, and finished goods within the department.
  • Load and unload skids in staging areas, storage locations, and at system entry/exit points.
  • Perform visual inspections to verify part count and tag accuracy.
  • Maintain organized, safe, and clearly labeled staging areas.
  • Support shift transitions by ensuring next shift has appropriate stock available.
Loading System Operation:
  • Set and adjust loader settings including lift height and weight calibration.
  • Regulate silo-to-canal vibration to maintain appropriate material flow rate.
  • Adjust bars inside the silo to ensure efficient product movement.
  • Monitor and modify canal vibration settings to maintain proper loading rates.
Unloading System Operation:
  • Set and monitor target weights for heat-treated products.
  • Use precision scales to obtain and verify reference weights for each part.
  • Execute the skid certification process according to standards.
  • Understand and follow protocols regarding skid usage, including why re-use is prohibited.
SAP Inventory & Job Tracking:
  • Start, interrupt, and complete production jobs in SAP.
  • Consume skids and manage stock through system transactions.
  • Print and utilize stock status and initial container sheets as required.
  • Follow procedural document WID-HT-0021-US for guidance.
Stock Pulling and Material Staging:
  • Identify correct storage locations and pull material accordingly.
  • Print stock status sheets for jobs in progress or upcoming.
  • Locate and retrieve stock within the Heat Treatment area.
  • Stack skids safely and accurately in staging areas and return locations.
  • Ensure materials for the next shift are pulled and ready for use.
Data Collection and Documentation:
  • Recognize and comply with specific customer requirements.
  • Understand and apply the heat treat specifications for different orders.
  • Accurately record critical data points including order number, report number, and heat number.
  • Complete all data collection sheets thoroughly and legibly.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Always working in a safe manner, understanding safety and quality are priority.
  • Fill out any required paperwork.
  • Use of computer systems.
  • Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Physically able to lift, bend, stoop, climb, and reach.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to become forklift certified upon hire (previous certification preferred).
  • Comfortable working in a heat-intensive industrial environment with proper PPE.
  • Basic mathematic skills to include the use of decimals and fractions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Punctual, reliable, and team oriented.
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions and technical documents.
ENVIRONMENTAL EXPOSURES:
  • Noise – Laboratory machines.
  • Chemicals, oils, acids, sprays, coolants and solvents.
  • Noise – heavy machinery – if in plant.
  • Noise – vibratory bowls and air feed systems – if in plant.
  • Responsible for complying with regulations and standards covered under MISOSHA as well as not damaging, moving, interfering or removed any safety related item that is provided.

  • Follow established procedures for proper handling, storage, and disposal of scrap, chemicals, wastewater, and regulated materials.
  • Support spill prevention, containment, and response practices.
  • Operate equipment in accordance with environmental and safety requirements.
  • Contribute to initiatives that reduce landfill, improve recycling, and improve resource efficiency.
