The successful candidate will drive incident investigations, corrective actions, and training, shaping a proactive safety culture across multiple sites and facilities under the company

Qualifications

  • Minimum BA/BS in Safety, Engineering, Environmental or related field.
  • 3+ years' experience in Safety, Risk Management or related field(s).
  • Experience with OSHA, DOT/FMCSA, EPA, DEQ and environmental compliance preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities across several operating locations in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to lead investigations and drive corrective actions.

Location: Richland, WA (Note: this position is on site)

SCOPE:

The HSSE Manager is responsible for the tactical execution and day-to-day administration of Christensen's Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSSE) programs across assigned operations. This position partners closely with General Managers, Operations Managers, Dispatch, Maintenance, and field personnel to ensure compliance with company policies and applicable federal, state, and local regulations while supporting safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible operations.

SIGNIFICANT ACTIVITIES & DELIVERABLES
HSSE
  • Implement and support Corporate HSSE policies, standards, and procedures across assigned operations.
  • Monitor and verify completion of corrective actions resulting from incidents, inspections, audits, and regulatory findings.
  • Conduct operational HSSE audits, driver observations, facility inspections, and risk assessments while ensuring corrective actions are implemented and verified.
  • Lead incident investigations, conduct root cause analyses, and coordinate corrective action implementation.
  • Provide tactical HSSE support, coaching, and guidance to operational leadership and frontline employees to promote a proactive safety culture.
  • Deliver HSSE training and support regulatory compliance initiatives across assigned operations.
  • Manage the Company Facility Inspection Program, including cardlock locations, terminals, bulk plants, and other operational facilities.
  • Coordinate environmental compliance programs including permits, inspections, regulatory reporting, spill prevention, and corrective actions.
RISK
  • Evaluate operational activities to identify potential safety, environmental, and regulatory risks.
  • Analyze incident trends, facility inspections, driver observations, and audit results to identify opportunities for proactive risk reduction.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor corrective actions that reduce organizational risk and improve operational performance.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by utilizing incident trends, inspections, observations, and operational data to reduce organizational risk.
LEADERSHIP & TEAM REACH
  • Develop and promote a safety culture that embodies one of Christensen's four core strategic anchors through an active field presence and by serving as a trusted HSSE resource for operational leadership and frontline employees.
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching, and operational support while building collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Partner with General Managers, Operations Managers, Dispatch, Maintenance, and other business units to ensure consistent execution of Corporate HSSE programs, regulatory compliance, and operational risk reduction.
  • Support operational leaders by providing coaching, guidance, and practical solutions that improve HSSE performance and regulatory compliance.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
  • BA/BS Degree in Safety, Engineering, Environmental or related major. Professional degree preferred
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while supporting numerous operating locations in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • 3+ years' experience in Safety, Risk Management or related field(s)
  • Demonstrated success in working effectively in multi-functional teams
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Experience with OSHA, DOT/FMCSA, EPA, DEQ and environmental compliance preferred.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Experience supporting multiple operational locations preferred.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and coaching skills.
  • Ability to build relationships and influence operational leaders.
  • Experience delivering training and coaching operational leaders preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while supporting numerous operating locations in a fast-paced operational environment.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
  • Frequent travel is required to support multiple operating locations, conduct facility inspections, lead incident investigations, support environmental compliance activities, deliver training, and provide operational coaching.
  • Overnight travel is required based on business needs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Operates in a professional office environment
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, sit for long period of times, talk and hear
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers, with the ability to reach with hands and arms.
  • This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.
