Through our two global business units - Storage Solutions, the world leader in tanks, terminals, and storage systems, and Asset Solutions, a leading provider of operations, management, wells and decommissioning services - we combine technical excellence with execution capability to extend asset life, optimize performance, and maximize value.

Overview

The HSES Training Specialist is responsible for maintaining CB&I training program materials and administering the company’s global HSES training programs. This position is an Individual Contributor role. An HSES (Health, Safety, Environment, and Security) Training Specialist designs, develops, and delivers educational programs to ensure a safe, secure, and compliant workplace. They translate complex safety regulations into accessible training materials, conduct new-hire orientations, and track employee certifications. They bridge the gap between regulatory compliance and human behavior. Their role is to ensure employees possess the competencies needed to work safely and effectively.

The role reports directly to the Senior Director HSES and routinely interacts with Regional Operations, IT, and Human Resources.

Responsibilities
  • Create and update interactive training materials (presentations, e-learning modules, manuals) based on operational needs and regulatory changes.
  • Conduct instructor-led, virtual, and hands-on safety training sessions (e.g., new-hire orientation, OSHA compliance, and refresher courses)
  • Instruct employees, contractors, and management on HSES protocols, including OSHA standards, hazardous material handling, and emergency response.
  • Administer Learning Management Systems (LMS), track training matrices, and maintain all related training files and materials (physical and virtual) to ensure all workforce certifications remain compliant and up-to-date.
  • Update and build training materials, presentations, and e-learning modules based on regulatory standards and site-specific hazards.
  • Partner with site managers and safety officers to identify training gaps and evaluate the effectiveness of existing safety programs.
  • Utilize insights from workplace inspections and incident investigations to create targeted training that prevents recurring safety breaches.
  • Perform training gap analyses to identify workforce competencies and detect safety trends using incident data.
  • Assist senior HSE specialists with auditing, equipment inspections, and emergency response drills.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Typically requires an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Adult Education, or a related discipline, or equivalent years’ of experience.
  • 3–5+ years of safety, instructional, or training delivery work experience, ideally in manufacturing, construction, or oil & gas.
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS), digital safety observation tools, and e-learning platforms.
  • Experience in utilizing and managing digital training platforms to track certifications, test scores, and compliance metrics.
  • Experience in conducting Job Safety Analyses (JSA) and leveraging past incident data to identify training gaps and mitigate hazards preferred.
  • Certifications like the Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or OSHA Outreach Trainer designations are highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of adult learning principles, bi-lingual capabilities (frequently English/Spanish in the Texas region), and proficiency with Learning Management Systems.
  • Strong understanding of relevant regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA, DOT) and industry-specific security and environmental standards.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams, and SharePoint.
  • Knowledgeable in Mobile Crane and Rigging safety
Skills and Behaviors
  • Proactively identify and solve difficult and often complex problems
  • Mentally agile and ability to multi-task and manage tight deadlines
  • Adaptability and agility to learn and contribute in varying and complex environments
  • Exceptional communication, presentation and public speaking skills, both written and verbal with ability to engage diverse workforces.
  • Knowledge of and capability to translate complex OSHA, EPA, ANSI, NFPA, environmental regulations, and corporate safety regulations into clear, accessible, adult-learning curricula.
  • Ability to create and deliver engaging, scenario-based safety materials, tool-box talks, safety protocols (e.g., LOTO, fall protection, confined space), and orientations suited for diverse adult workforces.
  • Proficiency in utilizing and managing digital training platforms to track certifications, test scores, and compliance metrics.
  • The ability to persuade cross-functional teams and leadership of the value of safety, moving compliance from a "mandatory chore" to an ingrained company habit.
  • A willingness to ask questions, listen to the concerns of workers, and adapt safety procedures to be practical for daily operations.
  • Unwavering ethical judgment in enforcing safety protocols, even when faced with project deadlines or pushback.
  • The ability to modify training methods based on evolving workplace conditions, new equipment, or shifting regulatory requirements.
  • Consistently modeling safe work practices, such as proper PPE usage, during field visits.
  • Promoting a behavior-based safety (BBS) culture. This means observing workplace behavior and providing constructive feedback rather than just enforcing punitive rules.
  • Willingness to receive feedback on training materials and adjust workflows to better suit real-world, on-the-job conditions.
