We are currently seeking an experienced HSE Specialist to support construction safety operations for a project in Santa Monica, CA. This contract role offers the potential to transition into a full-time, salaried W-2 position with a well-established general contractor.
Job Details
Hourly Rate: $58hr
Schedule: 40 hours per week
Shift: Monday-Friday, 8-hour days with some overtime
Start Date: ASAP
Location: Santa Monica, CA (no per diem; local candidates )
Conversion Salary Potential: $95,000/year (after 3-4 month contract period)
Scope of Work
The HSE Specialist will serve as one of the primary representatives in the field, working directly with clients, governmental agencies, and trade partners. This role is responsible for collaborating with project teams throughout all phases of construction to ensure that safety needs are effectively managed and upheld on the jobsite.
Qualifications
OSHA 510 certification
Minimum 3 years of experience in construction safety
Key Responsibilities
Act as a field safety representative for clients, agencies, and subcontractors
Identify and control safety hazards throughout all stages of construction
Review subcontractor safety documentation and job hazard analyses
Assist in acquiring Cal/OSHA-required project permits
Lead new hire orientations, site-specific training, and pre-construction safety meetings
Support implementation of corporate and site-specific safety programs
Serve as the site representative during OSHA inspections
Conduct independent safety audits and ensure subcontractor compliance
Assist with incident investigations and job hazard analysis
Analyze leading and lagging safety indicators to improve performance
Participate in internal project staff meetings
Skills & Competencies
Solid knowledge of California construction safety regulations
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively on site
Attention to detail, strong documentation, and proactive safety leadership
