Job summary

ABB is seeking an onsite HSE professional at the Puerto Rico facility to enhance health, safety, and environmental performance. You will partner with plant operations, site management, and corporate HSE leadership to drive risk-based improvements and ensure regulatory compliance.

You will lead investigations, deliver training, and implement group-wide HSE programs, while fostering a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and accountability across the ABB value chain.

Qualifications

• HSE management systems, risk assessment methodologies, and incident investigation techniques in industrial manufacturing.
• 2+ years of experience in HSE roles, preferably in a plant/industrial setting.
• (Optional) ISO 14001 & 45001, PROSHA VPP programs in industrial environments.
• Proficient in SAP, Intelex, Gensuite PM-PRO or similar HSE software.
• Passion for continuous improvement, safety culture development, and stakeholder engagement.
• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
• Fluent in English and Spanish; strong communication across all levels.
• Current OSHA certifications valid in Puerto Rico and work permit/visa compliance.

Responsibilities

• Reporting HSE incidents to management and stakeholders and initiating corrective actions.
• Guiding incident investigations to identify root causes and implement mitigations.
• Sharing lessons learned with management and employees and leveraging best practices.
• Supporting and driving behavioral change through local implementation of HSE programs.
• Monitoring workplaces and recommending improvements for occupational health and safety.
• Investigating accidents, incidents, and near misses with root-cause analysis.
• Conducting regular inspections and audits to ensure OSHA, EPA, and other standards compliance.
• Developing and implementing training on safety practices, emergency response, and environmental management.

Your Role and Responsibilities

In this onsite role, you will contribute to enhancing Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) performance at the ABB Industrial C&S Arecibo Plant in Puerto Rico. You will help foster a high-performance culture with a strong focus on HSE by applying your expertise to support the business, offer solutions, and ensure effective risk management across the ABB value chain.

Key Responsibilities

• Reporting HSE incidents to management and relevant stakeholders, and initiating appropriate corrective actions.
• Facilitating and guiding incident investigations to identify root causes and implement risk mitigation strategies.
• Sharing feedback and lessons learned with management and employees, leveraging best practices from within ABB and across the industry.
• Supporting and driving behavioral change through the local implementation of group-wide and business-specific HSE performance improvement programs.
• Monitor workplace conditions and recommend improvements to enhance occupational health and safety.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses; perform root cause analysis to prevent future occurrences.
• Conduct regular inspections and audits of facilities to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory standards.
• Develop and implement training programs related to safety practices, emergency response, and environmental management.

Qualifications For The Role

• You are highly skilled in HSE management systems, risk assessment methodologies, and incident investigation techniques within the industrial manufacturing sector.
• You have 2+ years of experience in HSE roles, preferably in a plant or industrial setting.
• (Optional) Experience working as an HSE Specialist with ISO 14001 & 50,001 International standard certifications, PROSHA VPP Programs, in a industrial manufacturing environment.
• Proficient in specialized platforms such as SAP, Intelex, Gensuite PM-PRO or similar HSE software.
• You are passionate about continuous improvement, safety culture development, and stakeholder engagement.
• Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
• Fluent in English and Spanish, with strong communication skills across all levels of the organization.
• Hold current OSHA certifications valid in Puerto Rico and meet any applicable work permit or visa requirements.
