Job Purpose
  1. 1. Processes - Build line management understanding of safety processes (20%)
  2. 2. Capability: Leverage HSE expertise to support own unit and others (20%)
  3. 3. Delivery: Guide line management to deliver HSE policy, set the culture and manage hazards (10%)
  4. 4. Improvement: Act as a role model for HSE compliance and commitment (10%)
  5. 5. Strategy: Contribute to delivery HSE strategy in own unit (10%)
  6. Other: Perform field HSE tasks and functions as required.
Key Responsibilities
  1. 1. Processes: Build line management understanding of safety processes (20%)
    Tasks: Be an influential advisor to line management by building and fostering a deep understanding of the theoretical concepts, industry standards and best practices in one or more AkzoNobel safety Core Processes (people/process safety) and/or sub-processes (for example: behavior based safety, industrial hygiene, hazard study, asset integrity, environmental management and distribution safety) as they are relevant to the Site. Increase knowledge and experience with high hazardous materials and control measures by training operators and other site roles in HSE, perform internal audits and incident investigations.
    Results: Safety process knowledge of Site management meets company expectation
  2. 2. Capability: Leverage HSE expertise to support own unit and others (20%)
    Tasks: Be an effective advisor for the Site by leveraging and extending its HSE knowledge through personal participation in AkzoNobel delivery of the Safety Common Platform, HSE Faculty learning programs, local regulatory trainings (NR's), HSE&S induction for employees and contractors, auditing and/or incident investigation and/or through training activities within the Site as well as through personal functional development.
    Results: HSE capability of Site management meets company expectation
  3. 3. Delivery: Guide line management to deliver HSE policy, set the culture and manage hazards (10%)
    Tasks: Guide line management to develop and ensure implementation of HSE policies, plans and practices for the Site in line with the AkzoNobel HSE Policy, Directives, Rules & Procedures (HSE Procedures) and in compliance with relevant regulatory requirements; together with and in support of line management, set the safety culture and manage hazards. Contribute and participate on HSE&S site inspections, coordinate implementation of safety activities as Safety Day, Safety Stand Down, Compliance, PPRA, LTCAT, Ergonomic Report and others.
    Results : Established HSE management system, compliance with local regulations
  4. 4. Improvement: Act as a role model for compliance and commitment (10%)
    Tasks: Spend time engaging with employees and act as a role model for ensuring compliance with and commitment to the AkzoNobel HSE Policy, Directives, Rules & Procedures, including its risk tolerance criteria. Management of actions from Compliance (legislation). Responsible for SAQ elements, PSM Building Blocks, KPI's report. Participation on BBS Program of the site. Participation on site internal and external audits, contributing with completion of actions plans from these audits.
    Results: Progress towards leading level of HSE maturity
  5. 5. Strategy: Contribute to the HSE strategy in own unit (10%)
    Tasks: Contribute to the deployment of the HSE strategy for design, deployment and delivery of the AkzoNobel HSE Policy, Directives, Rules & Procedures and Safety Common Platform for the entity, in order to ensure alignment of objectives and performance of the Site.
    Results: Alignment of strategy with next higher level
  6. 6. Other: Perform field HSE tasks and functions as required.
    Tasks: Maintain HSE processes at the site as needed by local safety regulations including and not limited to training, life critical procedures and special permit to work, industrial hygiene, contractor management, emergency response, compliance with local standards and requirements.
    Results: Safety improvement, compliance and procedures followed
Job Requirements

Qualifications/education: Bachelor's degree in HSE&S/engineering or related discipline5 years + experiencePrevious experience in processes involving hazardous materials and understanding of related regulations preferred

  • Very good verbal and written English language skills;
  • Relevant experience in similar units, disciplines, locations and/or other companies;
Rewards & Benefits

Base salary range for this role is: $85,000 to $95,000. This is the range that we in good faith anticipate relying on when setting wages for this position. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This salary range may also be modified in the future.
